Hi Cathy,

I would love to do antenatal work in the future - having gone through a high-risk pregnancy and having been on bedrest for many months, I would have loved an antenatal doula.

Right now I'm superbusy with birth doula stuff and I am going to be pursuing my Lamaze certification as well.....so right now antepartum doula is on the back burner. It's one of those things though, that if I came across a cient looking for an anterpartum doula, I would do it, figuring it out (prices, etc) as I went along.

Hi! I also would like to do antenatal work in the future. I received the training packet from CAPPA and I am going through the certification process.
I also had a "high-risk" pregnancy with my twins and was on 4 weeks of bed rest. I had gestational diabetes, preeclampsia and went into early labor. I'm hoping my experience will be able to help other moms as well.
Just like Dorothy, I would definitely reach out to a mom in need but would have to figure how to work it out as well.

I have done antepartum doula work in the past. Only for a couple clients though.

It was fun. I liked helping set up the "nest" for both moms. I am good at organizing and planning ahead so I had a lot of fun planning it all out and thinking ahead for what they would need in reach.

I did think that antepartum was much harder than postpartum. Perhaps that would change with additional training or perhaps it is b/c my own pregnancies were hard but not high risk. I found myself walking the medical line a bit more often. The questions were harder to answer with "studies say" or "this book recommends..."

Honestly, I had to ask Kacy and it to find out exactly what it was for myself!

I'm a Antenatal (Birth) Doula. I have experinence as a Student Midwife and really I can actually say that during my training I acted as a Doula really whilst observing. I was 'more with woman'.

I have also been the birthing companion for my daughter and her partner and my sister-in-law and I actually have my first client who is due on 20/10/2007. I did my initial home visit last Saturday (7th) and she is having my Birth and Postnatal Doula services. I'm so excited.

Talking

Hi from Lexington, Kentucky! I am an aspiring antenatal and postpartum doula. For now, I am skipping the birth part, too. I hope to be able to take birth clients in a few years, but for now, I have a young son and no one close for childcare (DH can't take off work and no family close by). I am also a breastfeeding counselor as I have done that for 4 years now. I am looking into several different things such as childbirth education, etc. I have a list of things I want to offer in the future such as cloth diapering workshops, natural family planning, belly casting, etc.

For the time being, I am choosing not to certify on the antepartum and postpartum doula work. I want to make sure this is going to be a viable option for families here before investing all the money into certifying. If it's not, I can put that money to good use elsewhere (CBE, IBCLC, etc.).

I'm very excited to get started on all this. I really feel like I have finally found my path in life.

Amanda

Ok, I'm doing major catch up here. I'm an antepartum doula/antepartum care specialist. I've had 6 preemies, and 4 high-risk pregnancies. I am sooo happy to see this section for antenatal/antepartum doulas.

Antepartum Doula

Here I am. In Illinois. I will be finishing up my training as a birth doula in a couple of weeks. I have completed 2 births and I taught Childbirth classes in 1989. Long time ago. I have started my business a few weeks ago and my business name is Pampered Beginnings, Antepartum & Birth Doula, located in Moline, Illinois.
Any referrals are welcome.

I'm interested in offering Antenatal doula care. Can you tell me if you got certified or antenatal services was an outbranch of your other doula services?
Thanks!

I was approached by someone starting the first doula practice in our area who invited me to participate. This will be one of the services. I hadn't heard of it before that, but I am interested, so I will join the wagon of aspiring antenatal doulas.
