Question Let's hear your morning sickness remedies!

What either personally worked for your during a pregnancy, or what is something you've suggested to a client?

And yes, this is motivated by my own personal suffering at the moment.

The only thing that worked for me was Sweet Tarts or Shock Tarts, and I had severe sickness my entire pregnancy with all seven kids. It was so bad that with one of my girls I weighed 30 lbs less after I gave birth than I did going into it (was 118 after her birth - it was horrible).

Others I have heard - ginger is supposed to work great, crackers, stuff like that.

Poor Tiffany!!!! I remember that all too well. What I really liked was those Icey-Pops that come in the long clear, plastic tubes. I think they're also called Pop-Ices; they come in a box with several different flavors: orange, grape, cherry, lime, strawberry. They're really cheap...I hope that you know what I mean. I think it was the fact that they were frozen is what helped me.

I have to go fix dinner now. I don't know how the family could possiby be hungry at 5:18 PM , but I guess I ought not to starve them!

I'll post more if/as it comes to mind.

Ginger is an excellent anti-nausea remedy...you can make ginger tea (can either buy it already in bags at the store or steep a slice of it in boiling water for about 5 min.), you can try nibbling on gingersnaps (all natural kind with little sugar) or what worked for me was candied ginger...you pinch off a small piece, place between your cheek and gum, and suck on it until the flavor runs out, then replace with another piece.
Some people swear by peppermint tea after eating a meal.
Also make sure you don't let your blood sugar level run low or you get in a vicious cycle of feeling nauseated, can't eat, and feeling more nauseated.
Graze throughout the day on whole grain breads, peanut butter, fruit, yogurt, and keep something by your bed to nibble on first thing in the morning before rising.
Also stay hydrated...dehydration can cause headaches and over all feelings of fatigue and yuckiness.

Hope that helps some.
Amy

I hear preggy pops are good (and I just got a free sample!www.threelollies.com) and applesauce worked for me. I didn't have it bad...just felt like I had a hangover for a few weeks. Apparently, it is something about the pectin. I did the ginger tea as well. I didn't care for the packaged stuff but boiling fresh ginger tasted pretty good to me. Good luck and I hope it doesn't last too long.

A client of mine just went through that and peanut butter worked for her. As for myself, my ALL DAY sickness (yes, including actually throwing up daily/changing my underwear every time....(kegels anyone?)not too much worked for me but I just kept on nibbling all day. Hope you feel better soon. In the meantime this old saying kept me going " a child that is setting well will make itself known".ie.hormones

Hey Tiffany, Sorry to hear about the morning sickness! With my first, nothing helped. With my second daughter, after dinner mints or peppermints worked great!! The skittles mints also worked wonders...and seemed to last a little longer. Hope it passes soon!

Vitamin B supplements, Red Rasberry leaf tea, mint tea, ginger-lemon tea (3-4 slices fresh ginger, steeped in boiling water 5 min + lemon to taste) Preggie pops, peppermint candies, also Origins makes a little aromatherapy cream called Peace of Mind...I HIGHLY recommend it for nausea (put it on your pressure points, temples etc. I got to the point during my pg that I would put some under my nose) and headaches. Keep gingersnaps with you always. Also, even better are Trader Joes cookies called gingeroos. They are delicious and have crystalized ginger in them. I also got really bad motion sickness while pg and took to wearing sea bands (little elastic bands worn around your wrists with little beads to press on pressure points) which ain't pretty, but they really helped. I also drank about a ton of gatorade, but if you could find something less sugary, all the better. There is a company called Sunrider International that makes this tea called fortune delight. It's kind of expensive, but it is pretty much amazing. It helped me through morning sickness and was the only thing that helped with my edema at the end. I am pretty sure I can come up with more but I gotta get to bed

Hey Tiffany!! I found that Ginger Tea worked really well, AND peppermint candy. You know the circle kind, that usually come in red and white swirl? (I think they are called star mints or something) Well, anyways, they come in green/white swirl and they're peppermint. Those really worked for me!

I hope you are feeling better soon!!

Consensus

I'm definitely going to go with fresh ginger tea. I hated the taste of it but it worked.

Wink Ginger....

Ginger is great! I use that now for my upset stomachs. We sometimes get little ginger tablets that melt in the mouth from the health food store. I wasn't educated enough to try those during pregnancy back then, but if they work for my tummy upsets now....maybe you could try those, too, whenever you're out and about! Btw...I LOVE tea, so the ginger tea sounds nice!

Fortunately, I didn't get morning sickness, just nausea every once in awhile real early on. Ginger ale and saltine crackers helped for me as well as small meals.

I just posted this to another member so I am copying it out of my own post:

"You can find preggy pops at a Babies R Us. Or you can buy them online at amazon.com.

Besides ginger try lemon slushies or lemon popscicles. You can also look for ginger beer (Stewarts makes one). They also make ginger candy (though it's typically very strong) and if you want to try looking for ginger snaps with real ginger that might help, too.

My other suggestions are sour candy, peppermint water (they sell this in the bottle now), and as a last resort you can try a Coke slushie. Not the best for you but some people say it really works.

Have you tried the acupressure bands? They are easy to use.

I hope this helps. I had really bad nausea with my first pregnancy and I tried everything!"

Wanted to add that the thread was about ginger pills for morning sickness and I have used those, too.
