I share everything I learn with my husband. So on top of us having 4 children and one on the way plus my doula studies he's learned a lot over the years and I recently discovered he's sharing his learnings with people at work!
There is a man at Matt's work whose wife is expecting their first child. About 2 weeks ago, the man started freaking out every time the phone rang thinking it will be 'any second now" because the Dr's said she was dialated to one and it could be any day. Matt told him to calm down. Labor and delivery is nothing like you see on TV... and she could stay dialated to one for weeks before the onset of real labor. He assured the man he wouldn't miss his sons birth in the 10 minute drive home if she does go into labor while he is at work. That helped... he stopped freaking out.
She is now 3 days "overdue" and the Drs told her on Monday that her BP was slightly elevated & her feet were slightly swollen. They said they were going to induce on Tuesday if her blood work came back w/ the slightest chance of hypertension (pre-enclampsia was the term they used) Matt asked the man if his wife had been late to the appt and he said yes. She was late and very harried. Then Matt asked if she'd been on her feet a lot that day and he said yes... she'd been shopping, etc. Matt said he bet the blood work would come back fine & all she really needed was a tall glass of water and to relax w/ her feet up. The next day the man came in and said Matt was right! The blood work came back negative for any traces of hypertension or pre-e and she was fine. They didn't induce her. (YAY!)
I had to laugh... He was explaining woman's cycles to a friend of his one day.. how they aren't all 28 days exactly and this is because ovulation can occur at different times for different women. How it's best if the LP is "x" amount of days in order to conceive, etc, etc, etc. LOL! He knows WAY too much for a guy.
