This one could have easily gone bad in SO many ways. There are tons of people to thank who were not even in the room for the birth. Starting with Daddy's CO & the Army, who gave him leave to be home for the birth. The CBE who gave mom the courage to switch care providers not once, but TWICE in the last few weeks of the pregnancy, the minister, who married them literally hours before the labor began, the church family who included them in their prayers that morning....
But mostly, it was Mom. Mom who took the time and the effort to educate herself about birth and her rights. Who made certain that she was in shape and had the nutrition she needed to get through this. Dad was her rock.. it was a picture perfect Bradley style birth. Despite 21 hours of excruciating back labor, a posterior, asynclitic (is that spelled right?) baby, a nuchal cord, labor that stalled at 9+ cm, pitocin, and an attending at the hospital who was screaming at the residents that this mom needed to get that baby out in an hour or she'd have to have a c-section. Luckily, that attending WASN'T mom's doctor- and mom's doctor, who was there for the entire birth, is having a word with hospital administrators about her!
Healthy 8# 3 oz baby boy born vaginally at 10:56 last night.:bdaysong
