Birth Arts Doula Trainings are open to anyone interested in learning to support women through pregnancy, birth, and immediate postpartum. This workshop is perfect for aspiring doulas, aspiring midwives, nurses, childbirth educators, college students, parents, and more.

The Birth Arts Doula Training balances evidence-based research on best maternity care practices with intuition, women's wisdom and traditional midwifery. We empower women to become doulas through our intensive course, which include a residential weekend workshop, ongoing mentoring, distance course work, and a Birth Arts Doula certification option.
Learn to support women giving birth at home, hospitals, and birth centers. Learn techniques to comfort women in labor, including massage, rebozo, touch, position, relaxation, and movement. Connect with others who are passionate about advocating for mothers, babies, and families!

A Site in the True Spirit of Birth Arts...

Alma de Mujer
A project of the Indigenous Women's Network, Alma de Mujer is a conference/retreat center located in the beautiful foothills at Lake Travis within a fertile valley surrounded by trees and streams. Alma is an affordable retreat facility available for booking to both non-profit and for-profit groups and individuals working in the fields of education, the environment, cultural and social awareness, the healing arts, women, family, children and youth groups, social justice and indigenous organizations. They have served more than 400 local, regional, national and international organizations in the 8 years of our operation.
Located 20 miles northwest of Austin, the natural and rustic setting provides a beautiful, private environment. The main lodge has 4,000 square feet of space and our sleeping quarters can accommodate 30 people. Catering, camping, organic gardening, volleyball, meditation knoll, canoing and Jacuzzi are also available.
Meals
Alma's kitchen provides creative, healthy, and quality vegetarian or meat menus supplemented with seasonal herbs and vegetables from her sustainable garden. Menus are created with group and individual dietary needs in mind and prepared by experienced and loving hands.
Jacuzzi/Wet Area
The Jacuzzi is located across the meadow, overlooking Cypress Creek. A rock flower and herb garden surround the enclosed Jacuzzi area. A lounging area, deck and a cold water shower can be enjoyed both night and day.
Organic Garden/Fruit Orchard
In keeping with the spirit of maintaining a sustainable and healthy environment, Alma has also developed a one acre model organic garden. Alma's garden serves as a role model to the community in using self-sustaining, traditional agriculture methods as well as supplementing meals for guests.
Meditation Knoll/Pond
Cypress Creek, main artery to Lake Travis, provides Alma with a beautiful lush spring-fed pond. Canoeing, swimming, and hammocks provide recreation and relaxation. "Madre el Mundo," life-size sculpture is the centerpiece of the meditation knoll.

There are no hidden fees for certification through Birth Arts. At the workshop you will receive a workbook with over 350 pages of information and study aids, and completion of the workshop entitles you to a certificate for participation in the Birth Arts Doula Training Workshop. You can then complete the distance work for further certification as a Birth Arts Doula.

Throughout the Birth Arts workbook there are activities that you complete after the workshop at your own pace. You will work with a doula mentor, who will be one of your teachers at the workshop, through email, mail, and phone communication as you complete the program. When you have completed the coursework in the manual, have attended five births, and read 10 books from the reading list, you can apply for certification as a Birth Arts Doula. You have up to three years to complete the distance work.
