Workshops and requirements

I have managed to find a CAPPA trained Doula in a neighboring city that provides a Doula workshop....the price is $300 but she's willing to do a payment plan

Here's my question (which I asked her also, but I thought I'd run it by you lovelies also!) is this workshop extra money I would be spending? I mean, would I still need to get certified, or would I walk away from the training with the letters behind my name?

Am I making *any* sense at all? lol.

The workshop is just ONE step in becoming certified. You will not leave the training with credentials.

The CAPPA website lists everything that needs to be done and the fees involved: http://cappa.net/labordo.asp

training is totally worth it - they cram a ton into your head but you meet other people intrested in being a doula in your area which is good for networking and it gives you hands on - even if you don't certify - you get GREAT information!

there is no silly question. i think taking the workshop is really important but it is only a step in your cert. you will still have to have births, letters, test ietc. it varies with each organization.

Yes, it doesn't certify you (or put letters behind your name) but is one step toward certifying. If you don't think you'll have the extra $$ to get certified, I wouldn't worry about it. I have completed my DONA requirements and because I don't have the money haven't applied for certification. At this point, I don't really feel like I need it, KWIM? It's a personal choice but I feel that the training and experience is all I need to be a great doula!
