Post New in Southern Ontario

Good evening,
My name is Liz and I am a Doula in training. I am taking courses through doulatraining.ca which has an online course but also does the courses face-to-face, of which I am a part of.
I have attended my first course "Childbirth Support Specialist Training" and I have attended one birth. Though I did support my daughter during her birth in June but I wasn't considering being a Doula at the time. I certainly could use her as a reference though because I was with her supporting her and her husband through her labour and delivery. With the lovely result of a baby girl 8lbs. 3oz. considering my daughter usually weighs around 100 pounds, it was great to see a good sized baby arrive.
I live in a rural community in Southern Ontario and anyone having a baby in our area has to travel to deliver their babies unless they deliver at home. My plan for November is to network and find out about the options of places of delivery in our area so that when I get clients I will know what their options are. It's been too long since I've had a baby almost 15 years. My son who is the only one at home with my husband and I is in grade 9, my next daughter (the mother of my granddaughter) is 21, married and living in BC (only for a year, but still to far) and my eldest daughter is 23 and just graduated from business management and looking at going for her bachelors or finding a real job.
My husband and I have been married for 25 years and I have been so blessed to stay at home all these years but I didn't want to be anything but a mother so it was good. Now though with my husband looking toward retirement I want to have something to do and being a Doula felt like home to me. What better way to continue my love of families but to help them with their start?
I am looking forward to many years of helping women since we are a transient community of people and families may not be close to one another for support, or families are just too small and there isn't a sister or mother around at all.
Looking forward to gaining knowledge here on this site and perhaps imparting some as well.
Liz
