Getting started in the Birthing Community

Hello! I was wondering what everyone would reccomend to a rural induvidual who wants to get involved in the birthing community and is not ready to be a doula yet?

start a birth network! become a childbirth educator or certified lactation consultant.

This post has helped me! I never thought of becoming a lactation consultant, but I also live in a rural area and know that it is something needed in the area! Thank you for posting this!

I live rural too. i live 1/2 hr outside of a small city of 25,000 people.
It has taken 5 years of promo and hard work, but I finally have a full schedual of clients.

You gals are inspirations! To keep plugging away, and having preseverance to get your name out there! I'm just trying to get mine out there, and I live in a large area is frusturating! LOL!

Do something as simple as starting a coffee group for pg moms. We are doing that here..every wednesday nite. My daughter is the group leader, and those girls are sharing lots of info and really making friends and having fun.

My membership is in the mail for DAE. I went to an excellent meeting this past week! But I can't be listed with them until I get my certification births done. Still a great bunch though!

The coffee thing is a great idea!! I think being pregnant is a connection for women, and we all could use extra friends now and then!
