Talking Newbie Here

Hello Everyone!!!

I'm just wondering what you would suggest for starting the process of becoming a Doula? How much would the certification be? Every site I've been too says it just varies. Who would you recommend I get in contact with? How long did it take you?

Thank you very much, I look forward to hearing from all of you!
Ericka

The price of the certification depends on which organization you go with - there are a lot. Some offer in person training workshops, others are distance learning... here's some of the organizations I can think of off the top of my head

www.cappa.net
www.dona.org
www.childbirthinternational.com
www.birthworks.com

There's more, but it's 4:30 in the morning so my brain is a bit fuzzy lol. I went through Childbirth International b/c distance learning was the best option for me at the time, and it took me around 6 months or so. I'm sure people will chime in with their experiences with other organizations! Good luck deciding!

Childbirth International also has a side by side comparison chart of all the organizations that is very helpful. in your decision!

Ericka,

You can also check out our Alldoulas Downloads & Resources page. (click underlined link to view) Once there, if you click "Doula Organizations & Training", you'll find a fairly lengthy list of training orgs, their descriptions, and links to their websites where you can get more detailed information. If any peeks your interest and sparks questions about that specific org, feel free to post a question. Chances are there will be somone on Alldoulas that will be able to either answer them or point you in the right direction. I hope you find an org that is a great fit for you!

Please be aware that this chart is probably not accurate for many of the orgs. Last I looked, I know that either outdated or just plain wrong information was listed within the chart for both CAPPA and DONA; I cannot speak for the others, however. It's usually best to go straight to the organizations' websites for accurate, up-to-date information.
