DONA questions

If this has been asked before please point me in the right direction.
I'm reading on all the certifications again and for some reason I'm not sure on the DONA fees. I know there is the certification pack fees, the processing fees, the member fees and workshop fees but what else is there? It seems pretty reasonable to me but I read on another question from a few people who thought it rather expensive. By reasonable I mean less than or just about to 500 dollars. Am I overlooking some key components that would raise the price? Also do I have to go to a workshop before completing the cert package or after? I'm not sure about that.
Thanks!

You do have to attend a workshop first in order for the certification births to count. There are other requirements for certificaiton....breastfeeding, reading, resource, attend a childbirth education class series. That I know of and can remember those items can be completed before attending a workshop.

The only thing i see missing in the cost is the books you are required to read for certification.

Good luck in your decision!!

Ok, thanks! So I can get the certification packet and start my reading, do everything else before going to a workshop except for births? That makes sense. Thanks for the answer. Its such a relief now that I know. I'm ready to start!

Yes! I had my cert package when I went to my training. No one else had theirs and they all went through mine to check it all out. I had already done all my reading by the time I went to training.
Good luck! Let us know if we can be of help and be sure to hang around!!

I just ordered my first certification pack! I ordered the postpartum this time around. I think next week I'll order the birth cert from DONA or Antepartum from CAPPA so I can work on them at once. Either way I'm excited to start my readings. I'm hoping to have all my readings done by the time I go. Thanks again!

I would order your certification pack the last thing. Your training is good for four years but the cert pack is only good for two. If you don't have your three qualifying births in two years, you will have to order another one. Good luck.

When are you planning on attending the birth and then postpartum workshops with DONA?

I'm doing the postpartum cert right now. I haven't ordered the birth just yet though I'm thinking about it. I have found workshops for later this year and early next year. There is one this month for the postpartum but I doubt I'll make it to that one since its a little ways away. There is also a birth doula workshop next month which seems more likely but I'll see about that one. I've contacted the organizers and they still have spaces open I just need to make sure my schedule matches up.

I haven't ordered the birth cert yet but the November birth dona workshop requires (or was it suggests?) that we have our pack before attending.
