Thumbs down Terrible Baby fair

Last Saturday I attended a baby fair and it was really awful. Everyone who had a table was pretty much ignored unless they had free stuff. I had some samples and at least five people asked if they could have all of them . IN four hours two people took my business card. No one wanted me to talk to them and almost everyone was really rude. I won't do this event next year. I left feeling negative and very discouraged.

Bummer. Sorry that this turned out so sour for you. The baby fairs around here are such small events, usually hosted by the local hossy. I had a similar experience although not as negative. You go and give it your best and no one even wants to know what a doula is! I had one person really interested in doulas and she was already done having her babies! but I hang on to the hope that she might be good advertising.
Last time I went, my first time, I gave away a nice relaxation gift pack. I didn't even have one reply. It is discouraging. But don't give up. It is a good way to keep your face out front and let everyone know that you are here for the long run. I hope that you can find another, better outlet than this baby fair to do so! Happy hunting.

Ugh, sorry to hear that. Where was the baby fair? Who was promoting it?

ARG!! Come on guys...don't tell me that.

I have one that I am doing on Sunday. Its just been a pain an the a** already. And now 3 days before, I am still not ready, and have a lot of stuff to do, the brochures were printed wrong, and I have 2 pg mommas on the brink! One over due, and one with a breech baby thinking she is refusing a planned section.

I am hoping the day does great, and it will be a smooth, relaxing day. I am so ready for holidays!

I find tradeshow and baby fairs difficult.
I find that people even avoid my gaze.
I did the Walmart Show and I spoke to 5 people (I know that many had better results).
When I do the Toys R Us one I will be taking a different approach and also promoting Doulas as a career option.
I think we just have to be a bit more bold at speaking with people and just know that being out there and visible makes a difference!!

The baby fair was in The Statesboro Mall. We like to call it the small. It was promoted by Wellcare...maybe that should have told me something.

Done several at Babies R us of all places. Women also tend to avoid the table or eye contact. I put out a free gift basket to raffle and many more came over! HOWEVER, I don't do Babies R Us anymore because some of us would sling our babies while attending and they told us it is store policy that if you are at their fair, no babies or children may attend with you. So .... NO BABIES AT BABIES R US! I won't spend a dime there now.
