Babies R Us seminar

I contacted our local BRU thinking I could maybe set up a table with 2 other doulas at the next baby fair or event or whatever. Well, she got back to me and instead said they had a speaking opportunity. It will be a seminar about doulas! I am a bit scared, as I am not really sure I can carry off a seminar! Has anyone here done anything like that or only done the baby fairs? What should we plan on bringing with? What should I talk about? How do we get people to take our cards?

I teach a free one-time class at Babies R' Us called "Secrets of a Natural Birth." It's basically a quick overview of what I teach in my childbirth ed class.

At a seminar on doulas, I'd probably talk about what a doula is, discuss dads and doulas, share some labor tips and tricks, maybe get them involved with some hands-on activity (for example, massaging each others' hands, or doing pelvic rocks, or trying out a birth ball, etc.), then open it up for questions.

Good luck, it's a wonderful opportunity!

What a GREAT opportunity! I think you should also talk about how a doula can be a value in ALL births, including c/s, and medicated births, home births, hospital births, midwife births. All of the above, so parents understand that a doula is valuable at whatever birth they plan! Don't leave out the benefits of a postpartum doula as well as their role!

Are they going to give you enought time for all this?! A couple days maybe?
