Babyfair booth
Recently I attended a local hospital's in house baby fair. Since it is for their patients only, the attendence is rather small, usually in the 20-30 range.
I've attended three times now, and although I've yet to gain a client from attending, my main goal is to get the word out about doulas, maintain a relationship with the staff and be comfortable with them, first name basis you know.
This time I decided to focus on the belly casting aspect of my business and still offer doula information and answer questions. I found that the belly casts were far more interesting to the general attendees than my usual doula displays. Instead of a gift basket or freebie bag, I donated one of my necklaces for the door prize. The host likes to have a door prize for every woman attending so no one goes away empty handed.
All in all, I do believe that these are important for me to attend. They are no cost as far as booth rent/fee. The only costs I incur are travel, doorprize and misc. expense if any. And I get to educate folks as to what a doula is and does. I have always been well received by most of the staff. Some go out of their way to come by and visit, others, well they're kind've 'busy' you know.
I did have one OB come by my booth twice to tell me how much he liked the belly casts! I'd like to do one in the future and see if he'd like to display in his office. That would be cool!
