Attending Baby Fairs, Expos & ShowsConversation surrounding the details of organizing your own table to host at an event.
No event listings please - see our Calendar for details on adding a function.
When you attend an expo, whether it be a home show, home/garden, fashion, RV, sportsman, etc..., what are you looking for?
What catches your eye, finds your interest?
How do you respond to the booths and personnel attending them?
Are you looking to make a concrete decision while there or are you just looking for information?
Would you even think about making a decision about a product or purchase while at an expo?
I ask all of this in order to better understand those expo attendees. We can often get discouraged because we feel like our effort at baby fairs and expos goes un-noticed simply because we don't pick up any/many clients. I'd like to reframe this into a positive position.

I look for attractive booths...samples! I'll admit I love samples. Give-aways, I love to enter contests. Professional looking literature. Honestly, the big thing, is people who are not pushy. if someone is standing out in the aisle hawking their wares or services I will give them a wide berth. If I think someone is going to try to talk me into something or talk me to pieces about a particular subject, or make me feel guilty for not buying something, I will quickly walk the other way.

I also do not like pushy people. I like having the option to approach for information if I want it or to just walk away. I like samples as well (and anything edible). I like simple but eye catching colors and organization. I definitely do not intend to make any decisions at them. I like to research and make sure I'm getting the best deal and I can't do that with no resources available (phone/internet). Also, I tend to visit booths/tables at the "edges" rather than in the middle.
I am one of those who just goes to walk around, I may stop if I see something interesting and if the booth person looks approachable, but not pushy. LOl I prefer to look at booths where no one is there...maybe they went to grab a coffee or something.
I usually walk around a couple times and then go back to what ever booths look interesting.
I never bring my wallet, I would rather think about what I want and call them back at a later date. I do not like to enter draws if I know that if I do not win they will call and hound me to buy their product.
I am drawn to booths by sight. Pretty fabrics, literature and fun stuff. A professional, but non-assuming individual who is pleasant, and not pushy (desperate).

Reason: typo
I hate pushy people trying to sell me stuff! At the last fair thing I was at someone was trying to sell me gutter doohickeys, and wouldn't stop even after I said I rent my house so the gutters are pretty much not my problem! So, you can bet that I won't be getting gutter doohickeys even if I had a gutter to put them in, just b/c the salesman irritated me!
From reading your responses, it sounds like the average person wants an attractive display that catches their attention; free/giveaway items; a very relaxed person manning the booth or no one at all.
Now do you think that the above discribed booth would also work for a doula booth at a baby fair? Why or why not?

Free samples, free edibles, no pushy person manning the booth are my biggest biggies. Professional looking materials are a plus, but truth be told...I'll approach for the freebies first and foremost!

I don't see why it would make any difference to me, but maybe I'm weird. As a professional looking around, it would be fine with me if the booth was unmanned. For clients who may be uninformed, however, it might be best to have a relaxed person present in case some have questions (some people aren't readers for information and prefer to verbally ask instead of read).
