Opinion of BAI homestudy courses

More specificially the Doula and CBE ones. I'm thinking of going through them but I need to find some stuff out. First of all, I know that when you certify with DONA you can't as a CBE give info to a woman planning an unassisted home birth, you have to turn them away due to legal reasons. Personally if a woman came to me and wanted education I'd want to give it to her if that were her plan. I wouldn't be her doula and attend an unassisted home birth, but I would want to give her as much info as a CBE. I know that with ALACE you can give info, but they do not have a home study course for the doula training.

Thanks for any help you might be able to offer!!!

I just want to clear up some misconceptionS of DONA that you stated.

First of all, DONA does not offer a CBE certification and therefore has no policy on what you can and cannot teach if you are also a CBE.

Also, DONA certification does not prohibit a doula attending an unassisted birth. They do caution doulas who do attend unassisted births to make sure their role is one of labor support only.

I hope you find a doula program that is a good fit for you!

Oh good to know, I was told all of this by an "experienced" doula in my area... Thanks for clarifying!

Have you looked at elmont birth services? Elaine does an excellent doula training! She does not teach childbirth education though as a DONA trainer since DONA is all about doulas. I believe she has one coming up in Nov.? and also one in Feb.?
