Why BAI?
Many students wonder why BAI Doula and Postpartum Doula Certification?
Well I thought I would fill you in.
1. We are different. We follow the midwives model of care. We believe in offering women what they want, not what we feel is best for them.
2. We follow a holistic model. We want to serve women in ways that facilitate them making the choices they want. We believe in supplying as much information as they want.
3. BAI students leave BAI will a full resource list, handouts, and a firm grasp on how they as a doula want to practice. We work to prepare our students for doula life.
4. BAI is flexible. We offer workshops, distance learning and an online classroom. We want you to succeed. We know that life happens and at times you will need a break, or have to take a break. By allowing this our students can focus on excellence and not a timeline.
5. BAI has skilled trainers a lot of whom are midwives. Our trainers are the best, we feel on the market. Some who have trained and worked in amazing situations, all over the globe.
6. Don't ask us to compare ourselves to other organizations because we won't. We don't believe in putting another organization and training down to get you as a student. We are amongst the finest and we want you to have the chance to talk to all organizations and make a decision.
7. You are mentored through your training. Call, email or chat if you have a question, we are accessible. When you call BAI the call is routed directly to the director. You don't have to deal with anyone but her or an answering machine.
8. We don't require a sign off from hospital, birth center or a midwife to validate your work with a mother. This is a conflict of interest and allowing one practice to dictate the success of another. It doesn't work for us. If the mother, grandmother, husband, partner, etc.. is happy, then we are. Yes you can get an evaluation from staff, but that is your choice. I have a few times read evals from family that were stellar, happy and loving the care they got, only to receive a lukewarm eval from a staff member who stated that they don't see the benefit of a doula, for example.
9. Our students explore their ideas and feelings about serious issues before they start working. We want them to understand the many facets their work encompasses.
10. Yes we require a lot of work. Complete the workbook, more births and reading, business set up, etc.. But this will only benefit the student in the long run.
