Cute Story

So my family has stomach flu and I have 4 kids down with it. Yesterday as I was driving Charlie (12) to school he says, "You know mom, I hardly ever get sick." I asked, "Why do you think that is?" He shrugged his shoulders and I said "Cuz, you nursed until you were 3!" I went on to talk about immunities and the benefits that he got that will last into adulthood. We arrived at school and off he went.

I went to pick him up after school got out and was chatting with a few other moms. We must have been talking about stomach flu, I guess a lot of kids are down this week. So Charlie says, "Yeah, the reason I'm not sick is because i got to nurse til I was three." His freind Simon (also 12 or 13) is standing right there with his mom. Simon gets this huge smile on his face and says, "Me too!!!" then they high fived each other!

How cool is that? Two pre-pubescent boys high fiving each other because they breastfed until after their third birthday. I felt like, whew I did something right with this kid. Because beleive me there were times I had doubts that he would ever wean.

I just had to share

That is awesome and gave me chills! What a great feeling that must have given you. Go Mom! And congrats on not having a boy that's embarrassed about stuff like that (or any child for that matter)

That is so cool, I can see my Zion being like that, he used to nurse his teddy bear while I was nursing his brother. LOL!

Talking Another Charlie BF story

I've got another cute breastfeeding story that involves Charlie, my 13 year old son.

Charlie went with his dad on Kirk's last run. For those that don't know my dh is a long haul truck driver and he hauls household.

They got to their destination, Portland I think, and one of Kirk's helpers tells Kirk he needs to go "deal with the shipper' because she's nursing her 2 yr old on the back deck. Of course my dh just grins and heads on out to chat with the shipper. He said she tried to cover up and he told her, "Oh, don't worry, my wife was LLL and nursed all our kids for at least 2 years. We had homebirths and everything." She relaxed and just let her toddler nurse while they discussed her concerns. About an hour later Kirk can't find Charlie anywhere. Kirk looked out on the back porch and there's Charlie chatting with the mom that's toddler is asleep at the breast. So Kirk hears Charlie saying, "Yeah, I nursed until after my third birthday. I was really lucky! Did you know that the longer you nurse the baby gets more immunities and everything? And breastmilk is the perfect food for babies?" Kirk said he was talking with her with all the confidence and assurance of any dad that is completely supportive of the breastfeeding relationship.

How cool is that??? Again, I'm so glad I listened to my heart and continued to nurse him even when everyone thought I was nuts!!!
