Breastfeeding Demonstration (Nurse-in)
I received this e-mail via a local Doula loop and wanted to share the info.
ATTN nursing mamas and their supporters!!!
It seems Victoria's Secret has had a few incidents in which they
turned nursing mamas away from their stores. Two incidents have
happened in the past week alone. They used such terms as "unsanitary"
and compared breastfeeding with "changing on the sales floor".
Victoria's Secret needs a wake up call that breasts are not just a
sexual object, but that they actually have a function, and that is to
feed our babies!
So.....there is a NATION WIDE nurse-in planned for Saturday July 1st
at 1pm your local time, at your local VS store.
All nursing mamas and their supporters are encouraged to attend. The
more people there are, the bigger the impact will be.
Here's a link with more details

Oh, I can't wait!
My friend and I boycott VS anyway (because we are big girls and it's embarrassing. lol) BUT I think we may make a special trip to Jax for the occasion. I wish we knew other nursing mamas so we could go as a group. Maybe I'll try our LLL......I love trouble

I'm going! My 15 yo, Kelsey called her best freind and they both want to go. They want to make shirts that say, "I was breastfed and I'm proud!" Hey, their idea not mine (aren't we doing a good job modeling for these girls?) I'm forwarding the info to our local LLL and our mothering support group. We're also going to get out the kids school directory and call all the mom's we know that are breastfeeding.
My main thing is that VS is in the business of T&A. I mean GEEZ they have a dang special on TV each year about panties and bras!!! But it's not ok to use breasts as they are intended??? Huff! You bet I'm going to be there!

Wow, I have started something over here ladies! I called m local LLL leader, who i've never even met yet as I jsut joined LLL this week and haven't gone to a meeting yet, but she was totally unware of this and was completely outrged by what's going on, and she's calling every member of our LLL group and going! WOO HOO! I guess we will get some supporters in our area after all!

We're going! Kelsey and her best freind made up t-shirts that say "I was bf in public and my children will be to" on the front and on the back "give your baby the best start, BREASTFEED!" I'll let y'all know how it goes!

We had about six ladies. Three of us actually nursed. Very uneventful.

Even one mama nursing in public at any time is "eventful" enough to plant the seed of normalcy in people's minds .
