I agree! For preemies breastmilk could mean the difference between life and death. I've heard of some NICU's prescribing breastmilk to preemies when the moms chose not to breastfeed. I wish all NICUs would do this. Those babies REALLY need the breastmilk.

Yes! A good friend of mine had a preemie (not too bad...34 wks but she also had other problems with her liver, blood, etc and got several transfusions and platelets and is STILL in the hospital a month later) and I had stressed to her the importance of bf. I was VERY pleased that the NICU where the baby is was very supportive of her pumping and they have bottles, etc and a freezer for her to pump and store and they even gave it to the baby in her feeding tube. She's doing great!!!

It sure is and for all other babes too of course.
I had a 25 wker and pumped for her, the whole staff kept reminding me how good it was for her to get bm. (like i didn't know that but it was good to hear) I even meet some moms who originally weren't going to bf and when their babes came early, changed their minds and pumped for their babies. My preemie is totally healthy and has zero complications due to prematurity and i fully believe bm helped her thrive.
