question ??

My daughters boyfriend asked me a breastfeeding question ...just curious.
Does eating peanut products during pregnancy and breatfeeding lead to all the peanut allergies that are so common now adays?

I have No expereince, and no answer for him, but I thought i would ask here. cause you girls are smart!!

I don't know, but I would think eating them while pregnant or BF would increase immunity to it, not vice versa. (that's my uneducated opinion)LOL! Anyone?

My dc's peanut allergy was sprung from being exposed to peanut-based products in infancy.

I haven't read the links posted, but I have read in some of my allergy books that children can become allergic to peanuts through exposure to them in utero or while breastfeeding.

HI,
From what I have read there is conflicting evidence on this. Generally I have heard that if there is a family history of peanut allergies that it is a good idea to eliminate them during pregnancy, breastfeeding and infancy and that otherwise it is fine to eat them.

Cheers, Shawna

yeah, LOL mature..we will use that word.
Just kidding he is, they both are. He even asked if it was ok if he took her to the lake for the weekend. UMMM...she is 18, she is legal, so, i really don't have much say in the matter now do I? He wanted to check with me, before he asked her. Didn't want to cause an uproar I guess.

Ok, so, maybe he is a smart kid! lol Watch out, Mom! I was 18 not too long ago..I was to be trusted...but not that older guy!....
Any who...on the peanut, thing...I always thought that the answer was that it didn't matter as far as breastmilk and pg go. just because my logic was that the mother's body would digest and break it down before it reached the baby or the milk, but reading that makes me think twice! So much for MY logic! I have a cousin who is so allergic to nuts/peanuts that even if my aunt is baking/cooking with nuts and my cousin comes into the room before everything is cleaned up, she starts to swell from simply breathing the dust in the air from the nuts! Scarey stuff! My best friend works at a private school that is nut-free and she can't even eat peanut butter before she comes into work or for lunch! Something for me to remember when hubby and I are TTC again!!!!! I didn't know about waiting 2 years before feeding eggs! I thought it was 1, so my ds has been having about an egg a day lately...he's 15mo! He loves them soooo much! Ugh

Hmm that's what I always understood it to be... I hope it's nothing different as I've been munching on peanuts and diving into peanut butter throughout my pregnancy and now while breastfeeding...ekk!
