BF help for client

A client of mine is turning out to be such a good mom.
Baby is the best nurser I have seen, latching on immediatly after a c-section and getting down to business.
Now however after 2 weeks client is complaining that baby nurses for only 6-7 minutes on a side and then will fall into a deep sleep only to wake again after an hour hungry.
She is concerned that the baby isn't getting the hind milk and that her diapers aren't as "seedy" as they were before.
Any suggestions? I am going to see her in a few hours.

is she offering paci's? I know that can reduce the baby's desire to suck so he/she might just get tired before getting a full belly? Has she tried compressions? When the baby slacks off compress the breast a little and the baby will (according to Jack Newman) start sucking again. Dr. Newman said there was video of this on his site...check it out.

I found with my children that sometimes I needed to "humour" them a little at the first sign of hunger. I usually played with them or tried some bouncing or swinging to see if I could distract them from feeding immediately. Sometimes they even bounced to sleep! Then in a little while they were really hungry and we wouldn't have that problem of drifting off to sleep.

Also, tell her not to switch sides if she's worried about the hind milk. She can nurse the same side twice and she'll probably feel that breast is emptied.

Thanks so much Stacie!
I visited with her and you are right. Baby is just a really good eater. Breast is being emptied after 7 minutes and baby is making a messy diaper after each feeding.
I will keep that information you wrote. I have been meaning to take more BF classes and I guess this is my sign to do so.

Yes, the breast compression from Jack Newman's book worked for one of my clients.
Also jsut ressure the mom that some times it takes more than a few weeks for the meds to get out of baby's system. Patience. Don't give up.
