Isn't this insane??!!! I was sooo grateful for the boob when flying a few times with my little one and I can't imagine how I would have felt if I was kicked off the plane for nursing! I have signed, and forwarded an email I got about this with the article on www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15720339 to all my friends. Came here to post, glad to see it was already up, of course!!!! :heart

in my inbox this morning from MomsRising

DELTA AIRLINES STATEMENT: "Delta Air Lines supports a mother’s right to breastfeed her baby onboard our aircraft. We regret the decision to remove the passenger from Flight 6160 as it was not in keeping with Delta's high service standards, and we are coordinating with Freedom Airlines to ensure that they deliver the level of service we expect for all of our customers."

NEXT STEPS: Right now, Delta Airlines is contemplating officially supporting the Breastfeeding Promotion Act which is currently before Congress. So please give Delta a call to thank them for taking a strong stand on behalf of breastfeeding mothers, and encourage Delta to actively support the Breastfeeding Promotion Act. Getting more signatures on the petition helps let our leaders know that citizen support is strong.

The other side of the story?

Got this from my local doula group this morning.....

Hi ,
I am a Flight attendant for Delta . I am currently on maternity leave and I breastfeed!!!
Very happily I might add , I unfortunately have to go back to work in March I have to say that for my 8 yrs experience I never encountered an incident involving breastfeeding . I do want to say that I work with a lot of bored /power hungry type A flight attendants ho can be a bit pushy . That is the worst part of the job ,however I think this was an isolated incident ... and It was not DELTA .. it was a commuter carrier subsidary that we don't own .

I am NOT in any way shape or form condoning anything .. I repeat I think this was an incredibly STUPID person who obviously has no training and or no business working with the public who did this ( add to that the pilot , a man, asked the mother to return to the plane ).

At Delta when we are trained for 6 weeks , we have NEVER been instructed to tell anyone to cover up when breatsfeeding . We are not to tell anyone anything regarding their clothes, culture etc. In fact we go thru a ton of cultural awareness training everytime we add a new destination. As a matter of fact , we just added Africa flights and I will need to complete a computer program before I return .

This happened on FREEDOM AIR ( not so free) and we don't train any of their employees . We don't own this airline either . I am all for having that individual demoted or fired . We can't blame a company on the actions of 1 employee.
And I breastfeed on all the flights I have been on with and without covering up without an eyelash batting . I have even watched a fellow employee pump in the galley . This was before I was a mother myself and our company never demanded that this practice not be done at work.

Also we are a mother -friendly airline as I had 184 days PAID maternity leave!!!!!!!!!!
And now I am on a unpaid leave for 6 months with my job position guaranteed to be there for me when I return .

So I leave ya'll ( we're a southern company ) with Please don't boycott us .. help educate the ignorant people who have no business judging us for something that is so healthy and an intergral part of parenthood !!!
thanks !!!
