Breastfeeding education training besides LLL

Hi all,

I'm looking for suggestions on ways to further my breastfeeding IQ so I can feel more confident helping my clients. For reasons I don't need to get into, I don't want to be a LLL leader. What are some other avenues for me? I feel like the BF info in my doula training was pretty superficial. I have read many BF books, including the big BF answer book, and am BFing my toddler after an extremely challenging first 6 months.

But I want some more formal training or experience helping women under someones supervision or guidance.

Ideas?

There are several resources

CAPPA offers a Certified Lactation Educator program

WIC has a Peer Counselor Program

I found these Self Learning Modules online

Here is Certified Lactation Counselor somone here has been to.

And last but not least here are a few threads where we've discussed this in the past.

I did the research on the top two sites a while back but have yet to sit down and really read through them so I am not sure what all is involved or how thorough it is. Hope this helps!

CAPPA has the Lactation Educator Certification. If there are no trainings scheduled for your area you can always host a training near you. Just email CAPPA and request a training for your area.
I know there are other orgs that have lactation counselor certs.
WIC has some training available for WIC volunteer counselors. There was a woman at my CAPPA CLE training who did the WIC training in TX, she knew her stuff!!!
You can also go to breastfeeding classes and support groups at area hospitals and get to know the LC's anc they may give you some extra help....

I am taking the same 18 hr course all the mat nurses and public health nurses are taking. I wrk for public health as a parent mentor facilitator. So the 'boss' asked me to take it so I can help answer questions for the women in the office.

I am not enjoying it all. breastfeeding is not my area of interest..but it is helpful in my doula work as people assume since i am a doula I have great knowledge of BFing.
