Breastfeeding support

Good Morning!

I'm wondering what you all have done for BF training? I was a LLL Leader for 9 years. I'm wondering if I should do a CLE. I'd like to be able to teach classes if the need arises. I DON'T want to get my IBCLC because I'm going to apply to midwifery school soon. My best freind is an IBCLC and I'm well connected in the local bf community. What do you all think???

Love & Light,

Jill

I'm a Certified Breastfeeding Educator. I took a course and a test. I have continuting education to do to keep my certification. I teach a class once every other month. I thought about taking my IBCLE exam but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Also, they want you to have experience in a variety of situations. I only need to volunteer or something to get experience with NICU babies.

I know I am the one asking all the dumb questions..I am new at this ...but what is a "lay breastfeeding counselor"?

I would like to start a breastfeeding support group in my town. Does anyone have any ideas?

SOme examples are LLL groups, WIC Peer Counselors, other breastfeeding support groups (we have LLL, WIC support group, support group at the local hospital run by IBCLC, support group run by another IBCLC, etc.). See what's out there first and then decide what to do.

Well we had a LLL leader however she moved away. I heard a IBCLC was going to start up a support group however she has not started one...yet. We do have a WIC and two IBCLC in the area. So I guess we do have enough support for breastfeeding moms.

I have not had any official bf training only because I am not interested in pursuing that direction. I do have lots of experience bf-ing and if I have a mom who needs more help than I can give I will refer her to a lactation consultant or educator in the area. I have also done lots of reading, so it isn't like I am not educated - just haven't taken a "training" in it.
