That is good! every childrens book I have ever read (you know, over and over and over and over until you've memorized the stinking thing and are sleeping through yourself reading it...) with a baby in it, the baby has a bottle, with almost a halo-like aura over the mother... oy!

LLL offers several childrens books with Mama breastfeeding. I think Chinaberry does too. I have a book The Story of Christmas - words from the Gospels of Mathew and Luke pictures by Jane Ray ISBN 0-525-44768-7 that has illustrations of Jesus's first nursing, him nursing when the shepherds come to visit, and him nursing while the Wise Men visit. I bought it from Chinaberry many years ago. It stands behind the ceramic Nativity Scene my mother made for my Grandmother that I inherited when Grandma Wesser passed away. It's a very special book.

It's always a nice surprise to come across a great find!
Unfortunately, childrens books usually reflect the biases of the cultures they come from and Western society depicts bottlefeeding as "normal".
It drives me crazy when even books about fictional animal families show the characters bottle-feeding their children.

I have also seen the list of children's books that La Leche League recommends. I like that they list some of the strengths and weaknesses of each book, and am planning on accumulating quite a few for the Sibling Classes I will be teaching come the new year.

However, I've sometimes found that authors who are trying to support breastfeeding are sending other negative messages to small children through other parts of the storyline, so be aware that just because a book shows breastfeeding images it doesn't necessarily mean it is written in a way that appeals or encourages optimal personal growth in children.

That does sound special Jill, what a wonderful gift!

Does anyone else have first-hand recommendations for children's books that have images of breastfeeding in them?

And then the Cat saw... can't remember the author. We have it and the kids like it b/c on the pages with no words they get to tell the story. B/f mom is shown in her robe without a bra (early morning feeding) and later babe is in a bouncy seat watching dad cook. But dad does seem to be looking at baby and baby is right next to him.

Yes! One of my absolute favorites. I got this book when my oldest was a baby and all of my babies have loved it! There's very few words and it allows the child to really use thier imagination.

I also like the book "Breastmilk Makes My Tummy Yummy" or something. This is a book that I got for my DD on her second birthday (5 years ago). It's pretty good, but I think it might have been written by an English person because of the wording. I had to change some of the words when I was reading it to my daughter because she didn't understand what "mummy" was and other things. lol
