I got to help a stranger today

I felt great about this and wanted to share. I was in the natural foods store today and heard a guy asking about gripe water. Well, we ended up on the same isle so I struck up a conversation asking if he had a fussy baby. Well, it turns out he has a 2 1/2 week old at home who is really fussy after every feeding. I made a couple of very general suggestions and told him how to contact the IBCLC's in the area. They are military and have tried to get help at the military hospital which is a waste of time. I honestly told him that they just weren't equiped to help them there but they should contact the other hospital. These LC's actually take our military women for free because they get such bad advice there
Anyway, I wish I could have pulled out all of the stops and told him about every option (including LLL etc) but I think I pointed him in the right direction and he seemed so thankful to have run into me. I explained that I am a doula/cbe in training and that put him at ease (ie not some crazy lady at the crunchy store lol).
It just felt nice to know I possibly had an impact on a breastfeeding diad's future!

Awesome! Great job! I like the "not some crazy lady at the crunchy store" line.

And you are right about military hospitals. Waste of time here too. Sadly we can't go to Japanese hospitals unless we pay out of pocket.
