The labor doula provides emotional and physical support as well as information for women before, during and following childbirth. Doulas accompany the mother during labor, and help them achieve the birthing experience that they desire.

In this workshop, students will learn various techniques to help mothers cope with the challenges of labor such as position changes, breathing patterns, and massage techniques. Basic information about the birth process and the emotional and physical markers of the stages of labor will be discussed.

Some of the topics covered in this workshop include:

• Massage Techniques for Labor
• Comfort Measures for Labor
• Psychological and Emotional Support during Labor
• Pain Medications for Labor
• Interventions and Procedures
• Birth Planning
• Difficult Labors
• Communication with other Medical Professionals
• Cesareans/VBAC
• Sound Business Practices and Marketing
 
This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Georgia Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This workshop provides 15.9 contact hours.
***Contact hours are only supplied to those who attend the entire workshop and turn in completed evaluation forms.
