How about we start with a roll call?
Name
How long have you been a CBE
Were you a CBE first or a doula that expanded to include CBE?
Who did you train with? Are you certified or working on cert?
Do you teach Private or group classes?

That should do for starters!

I've been certified as a CBE since last May. But I've been teaching CBE since 1998. I was certified as a doula first, but have always done both even before training/certification. I trained with CAPPA and I'm certified. I haven't taught an official class since my certification, haha!

Name Robyn aka everydaymiracles
How long have you been a CBE 18 months
Were you a CBE first or a doula that expanded to include CBE? Doula first - transitioned into CBE to help out a fellow doula who was wanting to take a break from classes but not have her business name out of public. Taught several group classes for her and now teach mostly private classes (which as a doula is more in my comfort zone - one on one). CBE is also easier to schedule around my husbands shifts and the children while they are so young - I know when I will be home and when I will be teaching a class.
Who did you train with? Are you certified or working on cert? I attended my CAPPA Canada training in Feb 2005. I have been SLOWLY working on my cert. Have to get my butt in gear though as those essays aren't writing themselves!
Do you teach Private or group classes? See my answer above I teach mostly private classes. I have tried to run a few group classes since I stopped teaching at the Y for my friend (I can use a room at my church) but I tend to get one or two couples interested and in my mind group activities/dynamics work best when there are 3-6 couples, so I usually offer to teach them a private or semi private series

Next!

Name Hmm.. really?!
How long have you been a CBE? Just starting out; I have been teaching clients for a long time, but now I want to do it officially!
Were you a CBE first or a doula that expanded to include CBE? Doula all the way baby!!
Who did you train with? I haven't trained, but I go by the Lamaze philosophy.
Are you certified or working on cert? I want to get mine through the PfB with our taxes
Do you teach Private or group classes? Once I finally get my cert done, I have a good chance of teaching the classes at the hosp. I don't know how long that will last since I will not be teaching "how to be a good patient"!

How about we start with a roll call?
Name Jenny
How long have you been a CBE Just starting out - hopefully training next spring
Were you a CBE first or a doula that expanded to include CBE? I'm not either yet. But I'll become a CBE first due to working fulltime out of the home
Who did you train with? Are you certified or working on cert? I'm think I'm going to train with Bradley. I would also consider Birthing From Within.
Do you teach Private or group classes I will teach group classes. I actually have an opportunity to teach with an established organization here in town if I certify with Bradley, but I'm not totally sure about certifying with them. I have some concerns about the rigidity of their materials and how little they teach about what to do when something goes wrong. I feel like it made processing my c-section more difficult, but I love their curricululm and philosophy. I love that BFW focuses on working through fears and processing prior births. I dunno.

How long a CBE: I've been doing classes with my clients for the last two years.

Were you a CBE first or a doula that expanded to include CBE? Doula that expanded to include CBE

Who did you train with? Are you certified or working on cert?
No official training, although I did shadow another doula doing CBE for 6 months, and I've taken various classes at the DONA conference dealing with CBE, and I do a ton of reading/research on my own to always improve what I am teaching. I would love to get certified someday but at this point, it isn't happening.

Private or Group Classes: Private with my doula clients. I don't see expanding my teaching to groups.

I started as a Doula. I immediately realised there was a need for mamas to have somewhere they could come for complete, accurate, evidence-based information so I started giving that to them. Over time, I decided I could reach more people by starting classes. So I did.

I started through CBI but ended up taking on an eclectic style and format for my classes. I haven't completed certification (and won't hehe) however, furthering my education is obviously essential to being a good Childbirth Educator and so I do that at every opportunity.

I have taught both private and group classes. Most of my private classes have been for mamas on bedrest or who feel too embarrassed to ask questions in a group setting.

How long a CBE
: I just started teaching. Our former CBE has started midwifery school so myself and my doula partner are now doing it. I do have about 9 years experience teaching adults and designing curriculums and I have an M.Ed in Adult Ed with a focus on issues related to childbirth.

Were you a CBE first or a doula that expanded to include CBE? Doula

Who did you train with? Are you certified or working on cert? I am training with Pfb - Lamaze at the end of October and am working on my my Lamaze certification.

Private or Group Classes:
Mostly Group classes - about one weekend class a month but right now doing a semi-private (2 couples) 6wk series. Right now we have more demand than we can keep up with - which is great but between births, workshops and other committments we are having a hard time scheduling enough classes.
