What Birth Videos do you use?

Do you show birth videos in your class? If so, what are your favorites?

By far my favorite video is Rhythm Relaxation Ritual by Penny Simkin. It is also one of the cheapest. I use a bunch of Injoy's (my center already had them when I started teaching) and they are good but IMO waaaaay to expensive. You could also get a copy of Unconventional Births & Born in the USA (both PBS specials) for pretty cheap or free. Those are great alternative birth setting videos.

*Birth Day
*Gentle Birth
*Comfort Measures, Penny Simkins (I only show towards the end of it, where the couples are working together using the techniques)
*Born in Water: A Sacred Journey (absolutely beautiful film)
*Stages of Labor (I borrow this from the community health center I teach at-it's too spendy for me to own)
*and a few films I got thru Bradley

Has anyone seen Naoli Vinaver´s new video? The World id Born through the Rhythm of the Heart. WOW! I cried so much when I first saw it. It´s very powerful. There´s no dialogue, just images of preg couples, women, births. The soundtrack consists of beautifully haunting mexican music ad fetal heart tones.

She made it herself because the Birth Day Video showed her birth but she told me that those people who are selling it never gave her a dime!

Injoy's Understanding Birth, on DVD.Spent somewhere around $650 for it, but it's worth every penny.

For those of you who use gentle birth choices do you show the whole things at one sitting? I went through trying to forward to certain spots with the DVD and it won't let me It's 60 minutes, not sure if I want to devote half of a class to it or just start it, let it run to a certain point and pause it before that class. *sigh*

I'm hoping to use that and Stages of Labor, I have Birth As We Know It too but I think it might scare some of the mommas here, might play it on mute during breaks or something, not sure.

I show:
  • Birth Day
  • Noa Was Born
  • Birth in the Squatting Position
  • One of the births from Birth As We Know It
  • The Power of Birth
  • A Bradley birth video
I think that's it...depending on the class, and how much they want to know, I'll show the section from Birth As We Know It on birth trama, c-sections and circumcision. I showed all those in my last teen class and everyone really liked them all. I had a hard time getting the parents to talk except after videos. Every one of them really liked the videos.

Any idea on where to find this video? I love Birth Day...too bad to hear that they don't receive any funds from the sales

Just an FYI for anyone who has Birth As We Know It -- Elena Tonetti lives in my city, and we get together for a lot of birth/related things .

Hi Stacie,

We have a network of birth and parenting professionals here in Grass Valley called BEPE (www.bepe.info) and we will be screenig Elena's film in November and offering her one-day workshop. I am really looking forward to meeting her! I have the film so I've seen it all ready, but it will be great to make it available for the general public! I would love to someday get in contact with a number of the filmmakers/producers from some of the films mentioned in the above posts and put together a short film series, screen it at a local movie theater and invite the public

I've shown this one for years, but I have the VHS copy so I'm able to fast forward or just stop it and resume playing it at the following class.
I show it in 1/3's I believe. I just show a couple births at a time and it seems to be enough for my couples.

Okay, I'll look into getting it on VHS or trading for VHS (weird seeing as how I'm trying to covert everything else to DVD ) Thanks
