CBE class contract?
Do you have one? Do I need one?
I'm not worried about my first students not paying, just wondering if I should have a contract.

Hi,
I have a cancellation policy for all the workshops we do. Here it is....
CANCELLATION POLICY
Refunds for cancellations made before the course begins will be subject to a cancellation administrative fee. For classes $50 or more, the cancellation fee is $10. For classes less than $50, the fee is $5.
No refund will be issued if the cancellation is received less than 7 days prior to the course date.
We reserve the right to cancel a program due to insufficient registrations and will refund the full registration fee.
Cheers,
Shawna

I use a contract of sorts for my CBE clients (big surprise LOL).
Whether you use one or not I suppose would depend on how comfortable you are with not using one and what types of things you might like to cover legally.
If you think you would prefer to use a contract, some things to consider would be whether you'd want to include a disclaimer for the information you are teaching/liability release, a refund policy, payment schedule, make-up classes/cancellations, photographic release (if you plan on taking any photographs or video-taping the class for certification/archives), possibly a confidentiality release if you're using a registration form or taking any notes, your/client's responsibilities and obligations, and other things of that nature.

OK- so I'm going to try to revive this thread. I am interested in having a contract for my childbirth education class clients as well. Has anyone else done this? Does anyone have any tips for constructing one?

Thanks teachin'mamaof4 for sending your contract. It was very helpful in making my own contract!
I ended up breaking up my contract into three areas: Services, Cancellation and Refunds, and Liability. In the Liability section, I included the following:
- that I was not giving medical advice and that they should always verify everything with their care provider
- that I can't guarantee a natural birth, or any specific outcome
- that they agree not to sue me in the future (this isn't actually legally binding but it can be offered as evidence if something were to happen)

here's mine:
Cancellation & Financial Policy
This policy ensures that my students understand under what circumstances they could expect a refund of their deposit. Please read carefully and sign.
In the event that the class series is cancelled by Sasha Lindberg, all students would receive a full refund ($200).
If students cancel, i.e. students decide for whatever reason not to attend class, including medical reasons, PRIOR TO 2 WEEKS BEFORE CLASS BEGINS, you will receive $150 refund. After this time period no refund will be given.
Very rarely I have to reschedule a single class because of doula work or an illness. I will choose the time and date most convenient to all class members.
Payment in full is expected with registration forms. If you are registering late, please include the $25 late registration fee (total $225).
We, ________________________________________________, have read, understand, and agree to the above policies.
Thank you! I look forward to meeting you in class.
Sincerely,
On my web site I state all of the above, + my class make-up policy.
