ICCE in training

I am in the process of becoming certified with ICEA. I have completed my contact hours, but I haven't started studying yet, or scheduled my evaluated teaching series. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by that fat binder of study modules, and the thick texts, and all my exciting ideas for classes.
Is anyone else going through this process right now? I would love to find some people who are in the same place who would be interested in having an online study/support group. Or if there is an experienced ICCE out there who would be interested in mentoring me through certification, that would be very helpful.

Please email me: Jade@motherloveoly.net if you are interested. Thanks!

I am. I took the training in July and haven't done a thing with it since. I was going the traditional route and am thinking about switching to the experienced because now that I have been teaching more I meet the requirements for the hours. The only bummer is that if I do that I need to reapply and pay $100 again, but if I need to get someone to evaluate my series that will cost me just about the same too or more because those that I asked charge for evaluating the series.

I'm an ICCE... got my cert in July. I love ICEA, they are fabulous. Don't be scared by the modules. I did a lot of scanning, if I didn't know one of the study questions I would look it up and write it down. It took me less than 10 months from when I took my training until I took my test. The test isn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be either. The best prep for the test I think is to start teaching!! When you are repeating the class info out loud all the time, you really brand it into your brain. If you need a place to come observe a series you are welcome up at my center in Everett (I know that is a long drive for you though). Good luck!

Emily,

I might take you up on that sometime. I think it is valuable to see a lot of different teachers at work. It gives you a broad perspective.

What type of center do you teach at?

I work at a crisis pregnancy center. We offer full childbirth education, completely free of charge, three nights a week, every week (Tues 6:30p, Wed 4p, Thurs 6:30p). The program is 8 separate classes: Pregnancy Basics, Baby Care, Breastfeeding, Birth Recovery and a series of four Childbirth Prep. It is definitely a more "non-traditional" environment... lots of single moms, very young moms, etc. I love it though, the girls are a ton of fun and they keep me on my toes. Let me know if you want to pop in for a visit!

Question OT: CPC (PCC) Teaching

Whenever you have the time, I'd love to hear how this works for you as far as payment goes. Does the PPC acquire a grant in order to pay you? Are the teaching supplies yours or the center's? I'm just wondering, as I may be interested in doing this some, myself. I live between two towns, both with PCCs and no cbe. I'm pursuing Lamaze certification (LCCE). Feel free to make a new thread in order to answer this, so that this thread doesn't totally take off in a direction not intended by the OP. Thanks!
