Yippee - ICCE certification

I just went to the ICEA website and found out that they are now offering a different certification for those who are already certified by another group. Joining the certification program costs nothing, which is great for me. I am currently certified by CAPPA so all I need to do is send in this form with proof of my certification and then I will be eligible to sit for their exam

This makes the whole process so much easier than what I was supposed to do (I started the certification process in July and have just let it sit since then because I am so busy, but with this new process I can do it easier!)

I checked this out as I've been thinking of re-certifying with another organization and found that although there is no fee to apply for certification thru them if you are or have been certified with another program, it is not free.
These are the fees required to certified:
*membership to ICEA...$50/year
*educators modules (optional)...$30...helps in preparing to sit for the exam
*cost of exam...$200 or $99 if taken at one of their conventions

Sorry, don't mean to be a wet blanket...just wanted everyone to understand it's not free...but it's still a good deal compared to other organizations.

Well, I am already a member and already own the modules. You see, I started out the traditional method and took the training and everything. Then when I started to look for someone to evaluate my series for certification I was told by a few that they would charge me $200 - that is on top of what I already paid and then I would still have to take the exam. So, for me there will be no fee for the evaluated series and to join the program it is free. You do not have to purchase the modules and if you are already a member then there is no additional fee other than the test.

For me it works great because I was already in the process of certifying and so it would have cost me $400 more and now it will only be the fee for the test and I am also considering going to the conference so I can take the test cheaper.

Yes, that is a good deal for you...I didn't realize you were already a member with them...

Yes, I started the process with ICEA because in my area ICEA or Lamaze are the two certifications that are recognized. I figured I would have to take training and when I first started I had someone who was already ICEA certified who said she would help me through the process and would evaluate my series and then she backed out. When I started looking around I had women tell me that they would have to charge for their time and considering it would be six weeks, blah, blah, blah and the fee that I heard more than once was $200. I was so frustrated. With this change it makes it all the more easy for me.

I actually got so frustrated that I said I wouldn't certify with them because I was already certified and was only doing it as it was more accepted in the area. I will admit that my training was very good though and I don't regret taking it, but I could have saved that money

If anyone is considering this I would highly recommend getting the modules. The test format and questions are VERY closely guided by them (obviously). You will do much better in prepping for their test if you get them. The test is LONG and rigorous but not as bad as I thought it would be.
