ICEA certification
I am just wondering if anyone here is ICEA certified as a childbirth educator? I ask only because I have decided to pursue this avenue. I am currently CAPPA certified as a childbirth educator, but unfortunately most hospitals in the area do not accept this certification and one needs to be Lamaze or ICEA certified.
I was just offered a job yesterday with the contingency that I get ICEA certified and after talking with dh we both decided it would be for the best especially since I am taking this leap off a tall building LOL
So in addition to starting massage school I will also be starting my ICEA certification with the plan to attend the training in July, and thankfully I already have someone who will be able to evaluate my classes, and have already accomplished half of the readings, and lord knows I have attended more than two births LOL

That's great!!!
Good luck with that, Michelle!!! You're just full of exciting news lately! I think that you are making a wise decision; the ICEA and Lamaze CBE certifications are currently the most widely known and accepted. I am sure that CAPPA has a great CBE program; but Like you, I want to keep my options open for wherever I may choose to teach.
Thanks to Stacie's post about them: I've just enrolled in the Passion for Birth (click to view) program in order to certify as a Lamaze Educator (that Teri Shilling, CD(DONA), IBCLC, LCCE is the director of). I really like the fact that all of their trainers are doulas. I am sooooo excited!!!!!
Anyway....I just wanted to congratulate you on your decisions lately. It's a brand new chapter in your life, and it sounds like you're following your heart! I'm so happy for you!

Yes, you are right - it does seem as though hospitals want you certified by one or the other. I was very lucky at the one hospital that I am teaching at because they took me on because I have a masters degree in education otherwise they probably wouldn't have touched me. I wish I would have known that when I was doing my CAPPA certification. Not saying anything bad about them, but there are few options with that certification at least where I live.

I'm currently working on my ICEA cert
for childbirth educator and doula.
The binder of stuff to learn and go over is HUGE, but exciting. Some of the books are hard to find at a reasonable price, but I had luck on amazon and ebay.

I was very fortunate because I actually already own three of the six books I need to read (they were the expensive ones LOL), so I only had to get three cheaper books. I bought them on the ICEA website.
