I'm taking the CBE plunge!!
Well, I recently found that PfB IS doing a Lamaze training in Birmingham beginning March 31 and I put my money where my mouth is today! I can't begin to explain how hard that part is to me. I have a problem with commitment! I went through the same thing when I was signing up for doula training. I knew I couldn't pass up the opportunity but I had a really hard time making the money commitment! I am sure you all understand. When I decided to pursue this I didn't expect the training to come around so quickly. Apparently, somebody besides myself thinks I am supposed to do this! When all of these doors keep opening up in front of me I feel it would be foolish not to walk through them!! I can't wait to compare notes with the other ladies beginning with PfB!!!

How cool!!!! I think there are several of us on here who are pursuing our CBE training.
I am already certified through CAPPA, but am now working on my ICEA because unfortunately the hospitals in my area do not recognize CAPPA training as being valid. It stinks, but if I want the job that was offered to me I must do this.

I hope you mentioned to Teri where you heard about it! I am about to commit the 350, or whatever, but there is no FOR_SURE training near me yet, that is one fear I have. But it sounds like there is not time-table, so I just need to get myself together and do it.

Christy and Stacie....
I'm soooo excited to hear this!!! It's too cool that we'll all be in PfB together!!! So far, I have paid the $45 enrollment fee and the $95 Lamaze Study Guide (I'll pay my $350 seminar fee closer to attending in the fall, I think); my stuff came in this past Monday. Be forewarned.....that Lamaze Study Guide is HUGE!!! The shipping label from UPS says that it weighed 7.8 lbs!!!!! It all looks so interesting, and I can't wait to get my act together and come up with some sort of a study plan. I will say, though, that it's presently somewhat overwhelming to me. I think it's definitely do-able if I break it down into smaller "bites"; but, to look at everything all at once is....well.....it looks like soooo much! That's why it's going to be a great thing, though. Earning LCCE status will be a wonderful achievement! I'm so excited to be getting into this at the same time as you two, and it'll be great to be able to support each other on our journeys!!!
Christy.....My seminar will probably be at the end of September or beginning of October. You'll have to give us a full report when you attend yours!!!!

I had a hard time deciding whether to get the hard copy of the study guide or the online version (since the online version also came with other online access). I am glad, though, that I chose the hard copy. There is no way I could read that much information on the computer!! I just ordered my guide and paid the enrollment fee today. I am waiting to hear back about a payment plan for the seminar. She offered so I figured I would take her up on it. Maybe if you started paying for yours now, Lor, it won't be such a financial burden come fall. Just a thought...
It is nice to know others just starting out. Maybe we should start planning chat room study groups or something! of course not until my material comes in! Maybe if we put ourselves on some kind of schedule to chat about certain parts of the study guide we will get through it quicker. Of course I am just making stuff up since I haven't even seen the book or have any idea how it is laid out. Anyway, let me know if you would be interested in setting something like this up. Kind of like a workout buddy that makes you go to the gym when you really don't want to .
Let me know

Christy.....
I think that having study buddies/chat time would be great! I'm all for that idea!!!!
I also ordered the hard copy. I like to mark stuff up with notes and highlighting in order to help me to retain facts. In addition....Once I heard how big it was, I mentally compared my "guesstimation" of what it would cost to print stuff out (ink, paper, and time) and the extra cost for Lamaze International student membership ($50). Dh and I both thought that it would actually be more economical & convenient to order the hard copy and get the LI membership separately. Also...I don't think that there is a time table on when we should get our LI membership (or even if it's truly required...although I do want to join eventually regardless). Let me know when your stuff comes in!!!!!

Oh, you guys have me thinking -- I said I would want the online version -- but I am thinking I should get the hard copy now? Hmmmm. I haven't ordered it yet, I should right this minute.

Yes, I should do this. I can't really pay for a seminar yet as there is not one close to me scheduled yet (I am hoping one will get locked in close to me soon). It is my understanding that there is no time table between ordering these things and taking a seminar, is that what you guys understand as well?

Yep....that is my understanding as well, especially if she knows that there aren't any seminars anywhere near you. Look at the bright side...you can get your required reading completed, work on your PfB journal, and get through the Lamaze Study Guide while you're waiting for a seminar date/location. By the time you go to your seminar, you should be very prepared for it!

One of the reasons I decided on the hard copy is if you get the online version it is only good for one year. You have to pay again to continue your online subscription. And it is not one calendar year. It goes from the date you pay until Dec unless you get it after a certain date (cant remember the date right off). I think it said if you order after in October or later you get it the entire next year. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
And I also understand there is no time limit on when you order your stuff and when you take the test or attend training. I do understand that if you take the test within one year of attending the training you get $50 off the test fee. Hmm...don't know if I can reach that goal considering the next test date is October and the following one will probably be past my year mark!

Oh, you are right, Christy. That is a VERY IMPORTANT piece of info; I had totally forgotten all about that!

Yep...I think that the test dates are October & April each year. I'm hoping that I can sit for the April '07 exam....we'll see! I'm waiting to join LI, too, until after April (so that I'll still be a member when I sit for the exam and receive a small discount for being a member...IF I can make the April 07 date, that is!) :rolleye
