My flyer - opinions please

Hello Ladies,
This is my flyer that I put inside my ALACE flyer they allow me to use if I want.I would like your opinions on it.It actually has pictures with it & is in italic which wouldn't let me paste,so you can't see it,but it is really pretty when it's finished.

Birth Doula Services ~

Tashina Marker

I have been professionally trained by ALACE as a Doula. I provide three in home prenatal visits and at least one postpartum visit. I have attended 3 home births, but not as a participant, so I am familiar with the experience, so whether you choose a home birth, birth center or a hospital birth I will support you in the setting of your choice. I am there to help you and your baby have a better birth. I will support you both emotionally and physically. I will show you comfort measures to cope with the pain of labor. I will not make decisions for you, but will try and be firm in implementing the decisions you make. I will help and guide your husband in the birth ,if he so wishes to participate. I will be working for you, NOT your care provider or chosen health care facility. I do not perform clinical tasks such as vaginal examinations, checking fetal heart tones , vital signs ,blood pressure, etc…

Referrals available upon request.

I charge a fee of : $50.00

I would change the above to:

Quote:
home, birth center or a hospital birth
flows better...or you could add "birth" after "birth center" but IMO it's hard to say birth that many times

good flyer!!

Just my opinion but I would also change the first line to:
I am an ALACE (Association of....) trained Doula. I don't remember the actual rule but something about passive voice etc. In other words, "I provide..." is better than "I will provide..." Grammer etc is not my strong point! Oh and use the word "teach" instead of "show" when talking about comfort measures. I think it makes you sound like an authority on the subject! (but I could be wrong)

I would change "at least one postpartum visit" to one postpartum visit because if you write at least you might end up with that one demanding woman who wants more and more and more from you. I know when I was creating mine another doula told me it was better to put your bare minimum and then if you choose to add more you look like the good guy who is willing to go above and beyond what was agreed upon. I used to have "at least" in mine and let me tell you a couple of women wore me out with wanting more and more and more.

I would also remove "not as a participant" because if you were at the birth you were participating. You might not have done anything, but your sheer presence there makes a difference. Remember there was a study that shown that even just the presence of another woman makes a difference in birth outcomes.

Also change husband to birth partner because you might get a single mother and don't want to offend her. I like the suggestions you have received thus far as well.

I do wish we could see it with the graphics though.

or a lesbian...it would be safe to just always use partner and never assume anyone's situation.

You're right - I hadn't thought about that Although I usually cover my behind by using birth partner anyhow, especially since I have had several mamas who have their mamas at the birth with them.
