Plagiarism - Stealing website material

Since we have been discussing websites lately I just wanted to comment on how sad it is when someone actually steals word for word what another doula has done. A doula friend of mine just found out that another doula in the area stole her website word for word and even stole her photos. How completely upsetting that must be!!! I couldn't imagine someone stealing everything - including photos of the doula and her family and claiming them as her own.

Okay, so I am kind of venting, and I guess my point is to be careful when creating your website so that you aren't actually "stealing" someone else's work because it is heartbreaking!

Man! That is awful! How creepy too...I mean the wording is one thing (even though that's still stealing and not ok) but to post another doula's pics and FAMILY!!! That's just odd. I'm so sorry for your friend. I remember when I was making my website I did search a bunch of sites for wording but made sure to make it my own. I wasn't trying to steal...just making sure that I wasn't putting misinformation on my site and that it made sense.

That really stinks. I have a java script on my website that disables the ability to right click and save. You can change it to say whatever you want it to when someone tries to steal your work! I was thinking about saying " Didn't your mother ever tell you it's wrong to steal?"
If anyone would like to code just PM me and I'll send it to you.

I think that is neat - is it easy to do?

i dont see why not at the very least ask permission if you want to use a PORTION of a site, but to copy it nearly word for word and use the same pics? eek.

That is just bizarre, Michelle! Truly, this woman who copied the other doula's site must have some MAJOR issues!!!! It's really freaky!

Wow! It's hard to beleive that someone would do something like that! Unbeleivable!

I like things nice and honest and out in the open. That's why I started the original thread on how far can plagarizing go? What tag lines are ok and what ones aren't?

I, like many other Doula's here, have looked at all kinds of websites to get an idea of what I want. The words will come from my heart and I won't be using another person's words unless I've asked permission and the author is credited. If the quote is commonly used and I'm a member of said organization then it's ok to use that info. Did I get that right?

K-I'm moving on
