Ladies,
I have a business name already, but I made it up when I was doing my babywearing business. I still have the website domain and host already, so I was thinking it would be cheaper for me to just keep it and use it for my belly casting service and future doula and CBE services. The name is: Shalom Babies. Would that make sense for bellycasting, doula, and CBE services? Shalom is Hebrew for peace. Definition from Wikipedia, just so you'll get a full glance of what it means: Shalom (שָׁלוֹם) is a Hebrew word meaning peace, hello, goodbye and wellbeing. As it does in English, it can refer to either peace between two entities (especially between man and God or between two countries), or to the well-being, welfare or safety of an individual or a group of individuals. It is also used as a greeting to either say hello or farewell, and is found in many other expressions and names. Its equivalent cognate in Arabic is salaam and sälam in Ethiopian Semitic languages.
What do you think?
TIA!

It makes perfect sense to me! I like it and think that it could fit for any of your businesses. That's just my opinion, though, and know that I was already familiar with the word "shalom", so that may or may not have influenced my perspective.

i like it but i too think you may put people off with it and think you only take jewish clients

As someone pretty unfamiliar with Judaism and even Christianity, I would probably think that your business name indicated something religious and I'd move on to the next name.

I think it's a nice name, but I probably wouldn't call you b/c I would think you were more religious than me if that makes sense. Which is fine, and you'll find your clients, but I don't know what clients you want kwim?
I, for one, really like it! It is a well known greeting/parting/well-wishing word that, no matter your religious views, you know means nothing judgemental or unkind. I am a strong Roman Catholic and I have a great repsect for the Jewish community and all they have done for us, so maybe that's why it sounds so peacefull to me (no pun intended!) I say go with it...if people don't choose you because of your gentle way of offering peace and well-wishes, then they aren't ready for the meaning of the word! Just my ! And Shalom!!!!!!!!!!

i just wanted to add that here in toronto, where there is a huge jewish population - there are lots of businesses with "shalom" in the name. but they are all jewish businesses so that's why i would assume the name indicated a religious/cultural connection.

HUGE dittos! I'm a Protestant Christian, and I never even considered the thought that she might only be targeting the Jewish community. I mean, it never even crossed my mind until reading some of your posts. Actually, even IF she were, that wouldn't keep me from interviewing with her (I also love the Jewish community), but I'm just saying that not everyone will assume that she's trying to target anyone specifically. Ali, I'd go with it!
Wow, this has been really interesting seeing everyone's responses. Since I have had my babywearing business, the only question I've ever had regarding my biz name is "Are you Jewish?" (Which I'm not by blood, only by faith).
Sooo....I *think* I will stick with the name, because I just don't want to mess with getting another domain name and host, really. Such a pain in the butt when you don't know how to make webpages in the first place!
Thank you so much, ladies!
