Question Doula Clients/Family/Friends Holiday Social Mixer

I am turning 35 in December, and my family moved this year, and we haven't had a Christmas or birthday party in at least five years... so I'm thinking of having an open house holiday/birthday/here's where we live now kinda casual party... just food set out, maybe cake at the midpoint (party from 2-6 with cake at 4, so people could come and go)... nothing fancy. But invite pretty much everyone.

And I would like to invite past clients... stay in touch, get to see their babies, introduce to my family, etc. (Lori's post below brought this to my mind!) Do you think that would be weird of me? And would it be weird if they got to visiting... oh, she was your doula? Oh, mine too... Although probably not, if there were 50 people milling around, doubtful it would come up.

I mean, I know that in my CBE classes, I refer to "I had one client who did choose to do that, and afterwards her experience was that she wished she had..." I never use names or anything, but maybe if people started talking in depth it would come up... I don't know. I don't want to cause problems. But I would like to make them a part of my "real life" if they are interested in staying in touch...

Probably worrying over nothing. December is a busy month, maybe no old clients would even come! What do you think?

Delilah~

I really don't see a problem with that. If you let everyone know who all is coming.... I usually invite everyone I know to parties. Unless, it's for family & very close friends. My very close friends are part of our family tho.

Thumbs up

Hi Delilah!

I think your idea is a very nice one! I wouldn't be too worried about the anonymity factor.... Clients will only tell what they want others to know, and I highly doubt that anyone would ask anything like,"Are you the one who...?". If you think about it, I've heard of midwives hosting reunion picnics and such for their past clients in order to show their babies off and swap birth stories (many CBEs do it too). If it can work out for them, then I'm sure that your party would be wonderful!

If you have that desire to see some of your former clients again, go for it!! It was so rewarding for me to see one of my client families again; like it did for me, you'd probably find that it gives you even more affirmation that you're doing what you were made to do! If you go through with it, please let us know how it goes!
