Tell me about CBI

Hi Everyone!

I am brand new to alldoulas and am taking the ALACE workshop this weekend. I am very seriously considering beginning the CBI training and certifying through them. I am unsure if becoming a full-time doula is in my path but I feel really inspired to do the training. CBI appeals to me because it looks to be a bit more manageable. Is their anyone else who has taken the training without the intention of becoming a full-time doula? Also, could I hear a bit about what the training is really like. How long did it take you to meet all the requirements, how did you find your certifying births, ect. Thanks!

and ! I'm a CBI grad - I took the birth doula, the postpartum doula, and the cbe courses through them. I started my birth doula course March of 07 and I attended my first birth in June of 07. I'm a SAHM aside from being a doula and cbe - I don't make enough to support my family but I do make enough that we have extra money now lol. I loved the fact that I could do the training on my time table. When I felt like studying, I did, when I didn't, I didn't lol. I was certified in July 07, so it took me about 4 months to complete the course. I think I found my first clients on bellywomen.net, but I'd also suggest networking with other doulas in your area - you never know if one is booked or is taking a vacation or something and wants a name to refer people on to. Here's some other threads about CBI:

Good luck!

I, too, would use the search function to find out more info about CBI. I know, on this forum alone, there has been a lot of CBI discussion.

Ooo i'm jelous that you have an ALACE workshop you can take! I would really like to take one of their trainings. I'm a combined CBI student though I really really like it. I find it much more informative then DONA which is the other program i started training through. I really recommend it but ALACE looks amazing as well.

Im doing CBI in the next couple of months because they accept payments each month,of $79 plus you can work at your own speed..You have 4 yrs to complete it..Which is Outstanding to me...Cause I know it will take me a bit.
Cause I wont have the class materials in my face but reading them off the computer..But I would totally tell ya to do this one because if you do the side by side things to see the course work and all. You'll see how much Legit it sounds.Plus they have other classes or you can add on classes and do 3 classes at once......Hope this helps you a bit...Kisses
