Talking Would you all say that CBI is the best for distant learning?

Hey All!
I am a breastfeeding mommy of six and really can only do distant education (baby WILL NOT TAKE BOTTLE). I would really like to get on with it, but have been going back and forth with the path I need to be on... As well as being an aspiring doula, I ultimately want to practice midwifery. I feel like becoming a doula would not only give some training, but also make me a more compassionate midwife...Just my thoughts! ...Any thoughts of the differnt programs out there? I keep seeing CBI and not too many others (so far!)...I probably should just read all the other posts huh? I'm sure this question's been answered like a million times!LOL!

CBI is perfect for distance learning. I have a 4 month old, a 3 year old and an almost 5 year old and have already completed half of my stuff in less than 6 weeks. BUT it also depends on your dedication and desire which I'm sure you have. I'm craving certification so I'm working hard! Try this website and compare all of them side by side- http://www.childbirthinternational.c...omparisons.htm

and let us know what you decide.

I love CBI - I started when my youngest was 4 months old. Here's a bunch of other CBI threads: http://www.alldoulas.com/forums/tags/index.php/cbi/

I am just in the beginning stages of my journey with CBI ( just signed up this week) and am very impressed with what I've seen. It seems to be a well thought out and comprehensive distance learning option.
Best of luck to you with whatever path you take!

I did CBI for my birth doula certificate and am currently doing the CBE program. It works nicely for my family situation ( large home school family with young children...)

CBI is the best Doula Prgm. around, in my opinion.
They let you truly take your time, with NO time away from your chitlins'. You can go as fast or slow as you'd like. The individual mentoring is awesome, too! They have online chat, Yahoo Groups for support, email them at anytime for answers, study buddies, etc.
For the money, it is incomparable to the others, as I did my own extensive research as to which one I would choose & found this to be the better bargain.
The curriculum is sooo extensive. I felt ready & capable at my 1st birth, for sure! The first course is in Communication (effectively communicating w/ clients, family, professionals, etc) So, that is saying a lot as to how extensive it really is!
Have you taken the sample course? http://childbirthinternational.com/B...ula/sample.htm
They are soon going to be offering Lactation Education, I hope to extend my education with their course on this, as I am already a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor.
Also, you will not have to pay a yearly fee, as some other programs require to stay certified.
You will not be sorry in your decision!
KK

I love CBI. I did alot of research of which program to go through, and looked at tons of post on others reviews of it. I started when I was about 6 months pregnant still working at a full time job, and my first DS was about 2 years old. I was still nursing him, and planned to tandem nurse when babe got here. My DS 2 is now going to be a year old, still nursing, no bottles, won't take them from me, but will for others. The program has worked out wonderful for my needs. I didn't go back to work after Ds2 was born. The program is totally go at your own pace. They give you 3 years to get it all done, and you can extend if you want for a fee.

What is great also is that you don't have to attend workshops to become certified. So if you live in the boonies, like me, that option was great.

I'm going to go through them as well. It really does look like the best way for me to get my Doula Certs.

My husband left for Iraq in December when our son was 2.5mths old. I signed up for CBI in January, did a lil bit, then got overwhelmed, set it aside, then picked it up again last month. Husband is still away, so I'm a sole parent to a bubba that is still exclusively breastfed, and yet I'm making so much headway on the course! I just do a bit of this, a bit of that, smash it when I can, put it aside when I need to. It's great

Everyone has said the same thing but thought I would chime in I started my birth doula stuff with DONA but finished my birth doula (and postpartum doula) with CBI and am almost finished with CBI's CBE certification I would say that CBI is fantastic! the training is great and easy to understand and they are very helpful and understanding!
I would say that the only comparable program to CBI is ALACE but the nice thing with CBI is there is no workshop you have to attend. Saves you time and money.
