Anyone else go through Cascade Christian childbirth ed and doula courses?
I start mine tomorrow and I'm wondering what anyone thinks who went through them. I like the idea of doing it online to keep me on track.

I just completed training to become a CBE and I'd refer it to anyone that is a Christian and would like that aspect in their training. I'm planning on holding my first series of classes in September! I already have a full class! They course covers the science as well as the Christian spiritual aspect. I also believe that the course would benefit anyone, regardless of religion, that's interested in natural birth. HTH!

I just finished with the doula training and the certified birth educator classes. I still have a few book reviews to do and then actually do the doula and birth training classes before becoming truly certified. The course was very thorough and Kelly is wonderful. Each week we had a reading assignment and then a quiz at the end of the week. We also have a yahoogroup for our class to discuss things in more detail. I feel very comfortable with the doula training, but I would like some "hands on" childbirth class experience - but that is just me. Overall, I was very pleased and sorry that the classes were over.

So... I am curious, how does 'christian' factor into a doula training? What makes it christian or different from just a regular doula training?
Like I said...just curious. Good luck with your course.

I think the 'Christian' comes into play as how we look at pregnancy and birth. Here's a quote from my teacher:
In the highly technical world of childbirth, it is important for each one of us to remember the Lord in our work, and make Him the very foundation of who we are as a practitioner or paraprofessional. We can get lost in the controlled studies, technology, protocol, politics, liability, and commerce, but it is now more important than ever to look up for our strength and guidance.
Christ-centered childbirth isn’t about refusing blood transfusions or denying outside medical help. It is about trusting in the design of the Creator, and acknowledging Jesus Christ as the author and finisher of our life and faith. It is by His hand that our children enter into the world, and we desire to reach out and take hold of His hand during the process.
This course is that and more. It has the nuts and bolts but also the spirituality from a decidedly Christian perspective. It has the same care and consideration that I'd give a Muslim client (such as not speaking anything immediately after the birth so the 1st thing baby hears is "There's no God but Allah". It also helps to dispel long held false beliefs and teachings like women have to suffer in childbirth due to Eve's mistake. That's the best I can describe it.

Mamma Locs said this very well. Until very recently I had never heard of "Christian Childbirth" but now, it all makes sense and I am thankful for the training. I too, would not treat anyone any differently, however, letting the mother know that her power comes from the Lord and she can pray through her pregnancy and labor with someone who would pray with her is very comforting. There are some simple techniques that we have learned through Cascade which help the mother focus on Christ as the center of the birth - like you would want Christ to be the center of your marriage I have read a couple of very good books on Christian childbirth if anyone is interested.

I've been looking into doing a Christian based training as well. My thinking was that so many of the other childbirth classes, especially the natural childbirth classes, while they are amazing, can seem a little "out there" for some of the gals that I go to church with. And I thought it would be great to be able to key in the same aspects of the other classes, how amazing our bodies are, our ability to birth, how we were made to do it, etc, and put a Christian touch to it. I think its great, and a great reminder of the amazing miracle pregnancy and birth really is!
