CBI Reading List

Hi

I just started the Birth Doula training through CBI. Money's a little tight right now since I quit my job to get all the sorting done (impending Air Force transfer to Okinawa), and I can't really buy a whole lot of books from the reading list to start building my library.
So....if you were just going to buy the three required books from the CBI reading list, which ones would you recommend?

Do you have a copy of the list? I didn't train through CBI, but I would be happy to contribute my . And, hey, it's always good to know what books are out there as well...I like learning what other organizations suggest so that I can be as well rounded as possible.

The man answered: "I found a fruitful world because my ancestors planted for me, so therefore I plant for my children." - Ta'anis 23b

Congratulations and welcome to CBI! I personally read Homebirth by Sheila Kitzinger, Ina May's Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin, and Fresh Milk by Fiona Giles. Loved the first 2 but the 3rd was weird to me and I would not personally recommend it.

I've also read and enjoyed:
Heart & Hands
The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding
Don't Cut Me Again
Immaculate Deception
The VBAC Companion
Babyhood
Pushed
Vaginal Politics
The Birth Partner
Special Women
The Doula Advantage

I have some of the other books on the list but have not read them yet. Good luck!

One thought. If money is really tight right now, I wouldn't buy any books, I would strictly go through the library system. If you happen to see a great find in a used bookstore or at a yard sale, I would buy that, but for training purposes, I would stick to the library.

Best of luck!

PS ~ I, too, read Fresh Milk and didn't care for it much.

Thanks for the replies ^_^

My only problem with going to the library system is that we're running out of time for the transfer, so I wouldn't have much time to look around in town, and I don't know what the base selection in Kadena (Okinawa) is.

I really really really loved Expecting Adam. I didn't want to read it at first but I found it on ebay for 1.50 so I couldn't pass it up. I'm glad I got it. I posted a review on it here on all doulas review section.
