Question Have You Read This Book by Henci Goer?

Obstetric Myths Versus Research Realities: A Guide to the Medical Literature by Henci Goer

She is also the Author of The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth. Just wondering if I should splurge for this book! It's pretty pricey; even the used copies!

Thanks in advance!

I have it, referred to it often early on in my career. I'd buy it again, but the studies cited in the book are a bit dated at this point, and Henci has mentioned that in the past. I keep hoping she'll come out with an updated version.

Yep, and what she said. I recommend The Thinking Woman's Guide to most of my clients.

I've heard it described as the "less user-friendly" precursor to Thinking Woman's Guide. It was written for medical professionals, whereas TWG is geared more towards laypersons, which makes it more approachable and less "dry," if that makes sense. The reason I haven't read it yet is that the content is supposedly very similar to TWG, although a lot has changed (in the way of research) since its publication. I've also read recently that Henci Goer is currently working on a new book, so maybe you'd rather save your pennies for that one.

I have never read it, but I have read the thinking womans guide to a better birth. While I thought it was informative and interesting, it seemed as though she was making a lot of statements without backing them up with proper evidence/proof. Even when she did, the studies were few and far between. I think she is a great author though....just not particularly my cup of tea.

Thank you all! Georganne and Angie: you gave me exactly what I wanted to know(but had to post in 2 sec or less and didn't have time to ask!)....I was wondering how dated or even out-dated it was! I think I'll stil with TWG for now and that she will come out with an updated book soon like Liz mentioned!
