Used Books

I'm certifying through the Birth Arts International distance program and then certifying for Childbirth Education through Bradley. I needed a lot of books!
Here in Nashville, there's a great used bookstore where you can trade old books in for cash or store credit.

We just scrounged up a few unwanted books, and even worn out kids books that the girls don't read anymore, and made $75!

I wasn't really expecting to find that many books off my reading lists, but I did find some, plus more for my library.
I used $25 of the store credit, and got the following books (all the right editions too!):

  • The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding
  • Pregnancy, Birth and the Newborn (Simkin)
  • How to Raise a Healthy Child in Spite of Your Doctor
  • The Nursing Mother's Guide to Weaning
  • Children at Birth
  • A Child is Born
  • The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book of Answers
  • The Complete Book of Pregnancy and Childbirth (Kitzinger)
  • Evidence of Harm
Crazy, huh!!???
I didn't even have time to look through all the books they had on nutrition, my girls were having a meltdown (as was DH-haha) as I searched through every pregnancy and birth book. Ha!

If any of you have the option to trade books at a used bookstore, I highly recommend looking there before ordering new or online. You never know what you'll find.
I was shocked!

Nice score on the books

I just checked out one the other day with no luck. I will have to try another day (or another used book store lol)

It's Mckay used bookstore...there's one in Chattanooga and one in Knoxville too. I used to go the the one in Chattanooga when we lived there and had no idea there was one here too!
I've been on here looking for rules about posting to external websites, but can't find anything..anyway, just to be on the safe side, I won't post a link, but you can google "McKay" and Nashville and you'll find it.
It's on the west side, on Charlotte Pk. near Costco

I am planning on doing this at my local Hastings. I picked up a used copy of "So That's What They're There For" the other day for $5.50 and I spotted a copy of "Touchpoints," so I am probably going to scurry over there very soon and sell off whatever I can! My big problem- I hate letting go of books! Plus, I am desperately wanting to own most of my required reading to build a birth/postpartum library of my own! Pathetic I know!

I was just reading your thread and thinking, "Hey, I just cleaned off my bookshelf today (actually my boys pulled all the books off and I sorted through as I was putting the books back), I should see how I could do at McKay's! I had no idea they had a few other stores (I'm in Chatt). I'll have to see how well I do here and report back

About McKay's - I just went to the one in Knoxville today and was able to get 4 books. One was a $27.00 book, the other three were $13 and $14.00. I spent $13.00 for all four and actually had a store credit, so the books were basically free!

I'm certifying with Birth Arts, too I can't wait to go see what they have and what they'll give me for the stack of books I'm pulling off my book shelf. Hmm, I wonder if they'll be open Monday?
