2 Questions about CBI
After a lot of researching, I have finally decided to go through Childbirth International for my taining become a Certified Postparum Doula!
I have 2 questions for anyone has or is currently going through this process:
1. I have a friend who is due in January, and she is going to let me use her has one of the clients I need for the training. Is it possible for me to finish everything that needs to be done before I can start taking on "practice" clients (sorry, I am not sure what to call the clients that you use for training) by the end of January?
2. The reading list for CBI is a little overwhelming, so I would love some feedback on some good books that you all have read from the list: http://www.childbirthinternational.c...ading_list.htm
Also, is there a topic I should gear more towards to help with the postpatum side of things?
Thanks so much for any information you can give me!

1. - plenty of time - I think you only have to submit the reflective essay before you can submit the client evaluations, and actually I don't think you need to submit the essay before you actually work with the client, just before you do the evaluation.
2. I forget which books I read, but I think all of the ones I read for my pp cert were off of the postpartum list. Some were more interesting that others.

Yep, you can count any client that you see any time after you start training, I believe.
Not sure about books yet, I haven't really got into much reading yet because I've been too busy with non-fiction. I've already read a few of Dr. Sears' books, however, and I plan on reading more of them for my required reading. His books are great.

Yes, you can use clients that you've seen after you began your training - even if you can't submit the write up on them yet if you haven't finished your reflective essay/communication assignment. I'm in that boat right now! I need to hurry and finish that paper up so I can submit the birth I attended in may! LOL

Also, I always recommend that you take advantage of your local library. It's horrible to shell out $$$ on some of these titles if you aren't going to be thrilled with them. You can always 'test drive' the book and then purchase it if it's a keeper.
Good luck!
