CAPPA distance learning?

Here I go again (wondering about organizations). Ok, the idea of the distance learning program sound great!I was really starting to lean towards CBI but I was just looking over the CAPPA distance learning program. It looks good too! Anyone completed or working on this program? I would love to attend a workshop, but it's just not doable right now for several reasons. Thanks!

Not to be too nosey, but, are you sure? Tamara (ctowndoula) is not that far from you (Columbus), and she is a CAPPA trainer, as well as a wonderful person. I've never done a distance program through CAPPA, but I have heard good things. Still....an in-person training workshop is so helpful and FUN! Have you thought about hosting a training workshop? You should PM Tamara to see if it could be a possibility!

I did a distance program through CAPPA and honestly felt that I got so much more from an in person training. You could hear other people's questions, get to do hands on activities - all things you don't get from a distance training program from CAPPA. I do not know anything about other distance programs

I would loooove to attend a workshop however, I don't want to drag my DH and kiddos out to live in a hotel for several days. Our kids are 4, 3, and 6months (and nursing). Plus the expense of accomodations, food and DH taking time off work. This is why I am thinking about doing the distance program and then eventually in the future attend a workshop? Also I don't want to wait any longer! I started working with DONA (attended BF class, CBE class, completed all the reading and then some). I have attended one last minute birth, but it was before a workshop so I know it doesn't count but it was still a great experience!DONA does not offer a distance program and there aren't any close workshops where I could commute.

That's what I am afraid of, but I could still attend a workshop in the future? or would that be silly to work on the distance program and then down the road attend a workshop? It would be an extra expence, but it wouldn't be for awhile.

I have a friend taking the CAPPA distance program right now and she is LOVING it. I think being at a workshop is important just so you can get more out of the training but if it's not feasible, then just go with it. I take online classes and I am beginning to think I am better off driving the 45 minutes to school because I am not retaining all I want to be but then again, these are 8wk crash courses!

Good luck! I say go with CAPPA!

another benefit of going through CAPPA is if you want to certify in something else (pp doula, cle etc) in the future you have a fast track option...

I also think it is a good idea to attend multiple trainings whether they be in person or distance. There is so much information crammed into such a short amount of time it only makes sense that you will absorb different things each time. Plus everyone has different teaching styles and different experiences to pull from that will make it a bit different.

Let me know what I can do to help. I am close to you and would be more than happy to see if we can get a local doula to put you up for the night. I do have a training coming up this Sunday/Monday so let me know if you want to try and see what we can do to make it work for you.
If not, I would be happy to have you host a training in your home town. PM me and I can send you the host requirements.

I'm doing the distance training from CAPPA for postpartum. I love it, but I am a seasoned distance learner. I am working on my Psych degree distance and I like the flexibility. But I would also love to attend a training in the future, when the timing is right.

If the timing isn't right, distance learning is great.

I am doing CAPPA CLD and CBE training and I love it. At a workshop you hear it once, long distance you can hear it over and over. I play my videos constantly while I am doing stuff around the house, so it is really sinking in. I am blessed to have found them.
