BIRTH the play

I finally got to see Birth and it was wonderful! My local birth network put it on and they did a wonderful job (I'm still very new to the area so I didn't get involved enough to help). If any of you get the opportunity to see the play or to host one next year...DO IT! The props are minimal and you only need about 12 actors and of course a space to have it. After the play they had a "talk back panel" with local "experts" to speak about pregnancy health and remaining low risk so you have the most options during your birth. Once they spoke for a bit there was a Q&A session after. We had a local OB, CLC (waiting for her IBCLC test results), a Chiropractor that teaches Bradley classes and a Doula/CBE. I am so happy I went as it was also a fantastic networking opportunity for me. There was a LMT that specializes in pregnancy massage and she invited me to sit in on one of her classes where she teaches pregnant couples to do their own massage at home (at least that is how I understand the class).

I had planned to host a Red Tent Event this year, but we all know how my business plans for this year panned out (we were relocating but didn't end up doing so - I had made arrangements for my Red Tent Event to be held at my new location).

Fortunately, I do have the opportunity to go and see "Birth; The Play" this month, so I'm really excited about that.

To check local events surrounding BOLD (Birth On Labour Day) check their website and click "The Play" on their homepage menu:
Birth On Labor Day (click underlined link to view site).

If you select "Media Center" from the lefthand side menu, you can check out their "BOLD film" to see what it's all about.

Remember to stop by our Events Calendar to see if any other AllDoulas members are planning on organising or going to local showings across the country and the world.

Oh, I'm so jealous! I am going to have to check out that site and see if anything like that is planned here in our area. Maybe I could get together with the midwifery school here, the doulas or other professionals and host a play

I went to the one in Pensacola, and then I attended the Red Tent Event last saturday. The lady who screamed "My body rocks!!" is a local Doula. So cool!

Our local BirthNetwork just did a Red Tent event. We are still in the process of viewing our video tape for distribution.

It was a very powerful and moving time for mom's to heal and to share.

Good luck to those of you who are considering doing this event. I feel it is very much needed. There are so many stories out there that need to be told (for healing)an stories that need to be heard. So we don't repeat the bad ones.
OUr Goal next year to to have a Birth The Play here in Columbus, Ga.
