Save Homebirth
Women are losing their rights to choose with who and where to give birth.

This just irks me in general (of course) but what really gets my goat (and I'm not intending on starting a debate, just my ) is the quote:

"we believe that
the Commonwealth has a paramount interest in
ensuring that the lives of unborn fetuses are
medically protected. "

Um, but I just checked and ABORTION is legal there? Whether you are pro-life/pro-choice, this 'argument' is just silly if you allow women to terminate their pregnancies, IMO!

Yeah, this whole situation really sucks. I *think* that last I heard they dismissed the fine but kept the cease & desist order, which is being appealed. Unfortunately, they can make homebirth midwives as illegal as they want around here but that's not going to get the Amish and Mennonite into the hospitals to have their babies with an OB or CNM kwim? So why take away a skilled attendant from someone who won't go to a hospital and would most likely UC or have someone untrained assist? Stupid.

We used that argument in Illinois.... rather than focus on making midwives legal, the smart women in the Coalition said to the legislators - These families will be having their children at home, so the state needs to make certain that these families have safe options. Consumers need to have licensed certified professional midwives so that these families will be certain to have safe care. Without licensure, how can the consumer be sure that these midwives are safe?(This was hard for the midwifery community, BUT good language for the legislators, which is ultimately what matters in getting legislation through).

I sure hope PA can get a bill passed. It's a hard road.

Thanks for this link. It is sad to think that homebirth is at risk for those that choose it.
I will spend time checking out this site and see if I can help in some small way.
