Hosting a "Birth Circle" event

My doula group is hosting our first Birth Circle event next Sunday. It's a chance for women to gather and tell their birth stories, whether empowering or traumatic, in a safe, supportive space. Everyone is welcome to share or just listen, and we'll probably have some pregnant women there too.

I'm excited about it, and we've been getting great feedback! I'm pretty sure we'll have at least a dozen women there, maybe more (those are just the folks I've heard from, RSVPs are not required).

Has anyone held an event like this? I'd love any thoughts or suggestions.

I know I want to have the names of some PPD/PTSD counselors and resources for a PPD support group, maybe an article or two on processing a traumatic birth.

We just did a "Red Tent Event" with BOLD www.boldaction.org last Sunday. It was amazing!! We recreated a beautiful red tent in a local yoga studio, lit candles, read birth passages and had each woman share her story in turn. It was incredibly powerful and moving for all who attended. We will be doing this at least once a year. Women need to tell their stories and be heard.

Good luck!!
