GA Birth Politics + articles

This email came from a Georgia Friends of Midwifery yahoo list. It sounds like we may actually be making progress in GA. Check out the link for three very interesting articles. The full articles are quite long but worth the time.

Great news everyone!

Marsden Wagner, MD has been confirmed as a speaker on our behalf at December
18th’s hearing at the capitol! This is the same day ACOG is scheduled to
speak! What a dynamic morning this will be! We want as many homebirth
supporters as possible at each meeting and I wanted to send this notice out
to you all with plenty of time so you can plan your schedules accordingly.

For those of you who don’t know Marsden Wagner, he is a
perinatologist/neonatologist, the former Chief resident physician in
pediatrics @ UCLA Hospital, the former 15-year Director of the World Health
Organization’s (WHO) Women's and Children's Health division, and the author
of several books

His few paragraphs about epidurals alone make the book worth it. It is good read for parents who maybe think that doulas and natural birth are wacky ideas. It isn't too "crunchy" but is evidence based and coming from an MD so a little more compelling. A good book for anyone.

This man is amazing! I hope everyone goes to his site and reads the article: FISH CAN’T SEE WATER: THE NEED TO HUMANIZE BIRTH in the International Journal of Gynecology and Obstetrics, 75, supplement s25-37, 2001.

It was an awesome article! I would love to be there to hear him speak! Can we invite him to Louisiana?

Have fun and thanks for sharing the info/great news! And I would love to hear what everyone says about the book....
